In Memorium

I recently watched the entire series of The Walking Dead in less than a week.

Beth Greene - The most recent and devastating loss on The Walking Dead. Thanks to social media, I was aware that Beth was destined to die. So I thought I was prepared. Boy was I not prepared. Although I knew about Beth’s fate and that she was a blonde, I didn’t realize right away that she was Hershel’s quiet daughter. I also knew that there was a lot of love in fandom for Bethyl, so I was kinda waiting for that to happen. I know they never actually got together, but their time together was adorable. It was incredibly cruel for the writers to take her to that stupid hospital which I thought was a dumb storyline. I realize that could be because I’m bitter. I just couldn’t understand why Rick went along with the gentle approach. Maybe if they had just stormed the place (like they’ve always done in the past) Beth would still be alive? I know it would probably come at the expense of someone else, but… The whole time I was holding out hope that Carol was a decoy. (Please someone point me in the direction of a good fic based on that concept!)

Something that I didn’t pick up on until I started reading fanfic was how Maggie was pretty unconcerned about her sister’s disappearance. Correct me if I’m wrong, but she was completely focused on finding Glenn and barely gave Beth a second thought. I understand that she is in love with Glenn and he is her husband, but I seriously doubt love and marriage would make me so unconcerned about my younger sister. And then once she reunites with Daryl and realizes that Beth is actually missing, he’s the only one looking for her!

I wonder what Hershel would think about that?

Hershel Greene - I was not a fan of Hershel when they first went to the farm. I found him stuffy and rigid, which I guess he had to be. He didn’t know Rick and crew from a hole in the wall. I really didn’t warm up to him until the prison, though. I enjoyed watching Hershel help everyone in his discrete way. I absolutely hated the Governor and when he sliced off Hershel’s head a little piece of me died. I had a feeling it was going to go down like that (especially since the previews for the newest season of The Walking Dead included Michonne). RIP Hershel Greene.

Someone else who died at the prison was Lori Grimes. Lori was another one who annoyed me. Maybe it’s the southern way (and I don’t get it being a northerner), but she was all “stand by my man” “Rick does what he thinks is best” and it never seemed genuine. Like she was just trying to ease the guilt she felt over Shane. I felt bad for Rick when Lori died. He completely fell apart and went a little crazy. And poor Carl. Too bad the world is out of therapists, because he’s going to need one!

Andrea - I really liked Andrea up until her affair with the Governor. There was another Walking Dead marathon on last weekend and I saw Andrea differently this time around, knowing what she would get herself into. I never understood why she felt any sort of responsibility for the people at Woodbury. Maybe she didn’t want to leave them behind the way she was? Maybe she wanted to do her best by both sides? Either way, the whole situation was a mess, the Governor was awful and the fact that she hitched herself to his wagon really bothered me. Especially when it was at the expense of her friendship with Michonne.

Lizzie and Mika - Poor, crazy Lizzie. Tyrese did not get back to the infant he left with that little pyscho fast enough for my likings. Luckily I had seen Judith was alive and well from the promos, but it was still nerve-wracking. I had a feeling Lizzie was going to kill someone, and poor Mika was her target.
