Most unusual and, um, ingenious. :) Wasn't sure when this was taking place initially, so the realisation of when it was at the end was a real 'ouch' moment.

Oh, this is fabulously imaginative. I love the license that magic gives authors and how much open space there is for writing stories that explore what JKR didn't. This is amazing, really well written and as others have said, you did a wonderful job keeping us in the dark about the time-line. The ending was so bittersweet.
