iiNet Naked ADSL2+

Thinking of making the switch from Bigpond Cable to iiNet Naked ADSL2+

So who here has iiNet? I'm 0.7km from the exchange so I think I can expect good speeds.

isp, internet, personal, iinet

I'm with iinet, also on an ADSL2+ plan. It's an excellent provider, they give free upgrades to existing customers when their infrastructure improves and being so close to the exchange, your ADSL2+ will be top-notch.

Naked ADSL2+ is problematic though, not because it's a bad service - I have personally heard people saying it's very good. But the installation period can be up to 1 month (from 1 person's bad experience) because they have to disconnect your landline first, then transfer your phone number (it's not like transferring your mobile number, the law hasn't caught up there), then reconnect you to the exchange. Depends also on whether there is high demand at the time, you may be shunted into a long queue, and disconnection always comes first.

If your mobile is your main contact point, then it shouldn't be a problem.

Yeah one thing I'm not liking at the moment is the large set up cost since I'm on cable at the moment. So to switch to ADSL2+ I need a new router.

It's weird as well with iiNet checker I can get ADSL2+ at my exchange but on Internode it says the extreme ADSL2+ is not active yet.

I rang up Bigpond seeing if they could give me a better deal to stay, and they offered me 60GB Cable Extreme for $104.95 which is cheaper than what Internode Naked ADSL2+ is ($104.95 for 55GB).

I'd love to go on the Extreme Boost plan with Internode which is 74.95 for 40GB which is almost the same price I'm paying now on cable for 25GB.

Because Telstra has always been such a big bunch of dicks, the other ISPs each need their own ADSL2 equipment in an exchange. So it's perfectly possible some areas can be ADSL2 on iiNet and not Internode, or vice versa.

It's also completely Telstra's fault (intentionally) that the transfer is so slow and expensive, no matter which ISP you're going from/to, since they control the local loop. Oh, and did I mention they're a bunch of dicks? :(

I would have switched to a naked plan (i'm on iinet), but the quotas count uploads as well as downloads... I tend to upload a lot. ;D But it's still tempting - 60GB for $80...

Yeah the 30/30gb Naked DSL2+ plan is the one I was thinking of getting. I'll probably will eventually switch to it and end up cancelling the land line and using voip instead. Should save a heap of cash.
