Fedora Summer of Open Hardware and Fun!

Jul 25, 2012 12:01

Today (at 12:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time), we're launching a sweepstakes for our Fedora Contributors called the Fedora Summer of Open Hardware and Fun! We wanted to do something nice to thank our Fedora community for all that they do for Free Software and Content, and we thought that giving away a lot of Open Hardware would be a great way to do ( Read more... )

Knowing that you won't ship to Mexico is somewhat sad, compared to the death of Janet Fraiser in the line of duty. Given the close proximity, you'd think that it was one of the selected elite countries that would be supported.

No need to "make it up to me", however, knowing that hardware will be shipped to awesome people around the world makes me feel better already.

Keep doing awesome things, Spot, Ruth, Robyn & All!

P.S. I have no idea why I'm wearing a 'Birthday Suit' on my profile image. It's not September yet.

You'd think! Part of the limitations here is that every country that we want to involve with sweepstakes has to be specifically cleared by Red Hat Legal and factored into the rules and regulations for the sweepstakes, and this involves outside counsel and is rather expensive. Combine that with the fact that Red Hat hasn't really done a lot of international sweepstakes, and we ended up with a lot of countries that simply haven't been reviewed (including Mexico and all of Latin America). We're hopeful we can review some additional countries for future sweepstakes (assuming this is successful).

Hey, thanks so much for this sweepstakes guys!
That's really nice to enhance our creativity and new "toys" are always welcome :D

Unfortunately, I can not see France in the available countries :_(.

On a side note, why do guys need to enter their FAS credentials (login+password) using an insecure connection? The Raffles website looks more trustable ;).

I'm pretty sure that all of the FAS authentication is happening over HTTPS. All of the links are https://. Feel free to poke lmacken on IRC about it.

France requires registration of sweepstakes, which requires extra planning time and expense, so it was omitted for this sweepstakes (otherwise, it would be the Fedora Winter of Open Hardware and Fun). I might bring some goodies with me to FUDCon Paris to try to even things out a bit. :)
