My body has betrayed me.

A year ago I noticed I was starting to get some belly fat, which was weird for me. So I started working out, walking more at work, being more active in general. I gained weight.

I started taking very long walks in the evenings and trying to do at least a mile on my lunch break. I started doing situps and pushups and lifting weights every day. I ( Read more... )

How does that timing correlate with this:

That's exactly the problem, but the phytobezoar is merely a symptom. The real issue is that my stomach and intestines are incredibly lazy and by and large refuse to move food along.

You might try seeing if a particular food is affecting you. My sister used to have a horrible time with her health and her weight. Then she cut out wheat/gluten. She went from a size 14 to a size 8 (much happier for her frame and height) and gained a ridiculous amount of energy and stopped always being sick. Sometimes one little intolerance can really affect your whole system, and, if you've increased your gluten intake as a result of the downscaling raw fruits and veggies that nate notes above, then this could be a possibility.

Right now I'm completely off produce entirely, no fruits or vegetables at all. I'm not eating much gluten at all, I've been going with lean protein. I eat a lot of cottage cheese, yogurt, beans, and tofu. I avoid simple carbs as much as possible. This also does nothing to stop the relentless weight gain.

2 points:

-metabolism and body type/shape do change as you get older.

-was some of that weight muscle? It sounds like you are also putting on fat; but muscle does weigh more than fat, right? So the gaining weight part isn't so bad unless it's all fat?

There's a good bet I've gained some muscle weight, but what good are rippling biceps if they're covered with fat? I have fat in places I've never had it before and I am seriously getting too fat for a lot of my clothes. I can't afford a new workout wardrobe or a new swimsuit to fit my bulging body.

How many meals are you eating a day? And are you eating within the first 30 minutes you wake up? These can effect your metabolism.

The thing is, all the rules about eating and weight loss do not apply to me. I have a stomach condition that makes my stomach very slow to empty so that I process food incredibly slowly and completely at random. I can eat a pile of candy and have a hypoglycemic episode followed by a sugar buzz five hours later.

I eat first thing in the morning, at least a tiny bit. I can't eat small meals through the day or I will be sick by the evening. I pretty much eat a little when my stomach is empty and don't eat when it's full. The thing is, if I count calories and eat carefully placed meals throughout the day for a total of 1200-1500 calories I gain weight, and if I barely eat anything except when I feel hungry and end the day under 1000 calories I also gain weight.

Speaking from experience: Have your metabolism checked! If you really do all those things, the only reason you could still be gaining weight is an abnormal metabolism. There are a number of metabolic disorders that could cause you to gain weight despite a rigorously healthy lifestyle, and many of them are treatable.

Then I'm just unlucky because I have an untreatable one. I have gastroparesis. There are a couple of meds I can take, they don't do much for me, and they do nothing to stop the relentless weight gain.
