That was a television show, John. And he made Priceline commercials.

It was a Star Trek full weekend. Friday night we went to go see the new Star Trek movie, and a conversation that night led to a bunch of us getting together Saturday night to watch Star Trek V: The Final Frontier with it's hysterical Riff Track. Thank you Michael T. Nelson for entering the phrase, "Ka'Pla, fo ( Read more... )

Totally agree. Loved the movie and thought they treated everything really well. The one-liners and other signature things of each crew members were done very naturally and more of a nod to the fans rather than a tongue in cheek wink.

I think the aliens seen can easily be explained by the destruction of the Kelvin 25 years previously. Time tables for accepting other friendly species into the federation could have been accelerated. The potential for future stories is so wide open and exciting now. With the destruction of Vulcan and a severely crippled Klingon fleet, the balance of power has severely shifted. I'm really happy to see them leave this alternate timeline in place and not try to fix it with something like Section 31 or a timeship from the 29th century popping up, which is what probably would have happened if this was just an episode of a show. Although now a Section 31 story dealing with the repercussions of the movie could be cool.

That's an interesting point I hadn't considered re: the aliens. It still seems a bit out of place in the middle of no-where Iowa, (it seems like aliens joining Star Fleet would be able to beam down directly to San Francisco) but otherwise that mollifies me.

but the shipyard was in Iowa, so it's not middle of nowhere.
why was the shipyard in Iowa though?

I missed it. Plus, my hair is no longer fire engine red and spiky and I missed all my auburn pics. Also, I love this icon George made for me, and it really works better with this layout than the red one.
