I didn't watch the inauguration (I don't have a tv so it would've taken more effort than I thought it worth.) I certainly didn't watch the inauguration and WEEP, which was apparently the norm. I'm glad Obama's president now, but my happiness is in no small part due to the fact that maybe everyone will stop bitching now, and take down all those

I feel the same way. I heard a point along the same lines on NPR, (where I listened to most of the inauguration, after watching his speech on the internet.) They were talking about how there's a generation of kids that will be raised with an ambivalent mindset to the whole "first black president" thing, because it'll just be common knowledge and something they stick in history books.

I assume this is what you meant by historical significance, seeing as other than that he's mainly just another politician. Other than that, American's are pretty much destined to be disappointed. But at least he's doing what he can to be realistic now.
