When you watch the TOS films, does anyone else besides me kind of sense a difference in the way McCoy banters with Spock before Spock's death and subsequently afterwards, when Spock is brought back to life? Because I kind of do, really, and I wonder if it kind of works in our shippy favor ( Read more... )

I totally agree with you. In TVH, McCoy seems more protective and patient with Spock, and yes, a bit flirty! I guess nearly losing somebody and then having his katra stuck in your head puts things in perspective!

Also, in TUC, I couldn't help noticing that, after Spock, McCoy is by far the most welcoming toward the Klingons. Which makes me think that Spock confided his hopes and plans to McCoy sometime before the dinner party.

Good point! I see it as part of his empathetic role as a doctor, but also perhaps that because Spock is so close to him, he's become more sensitive to those things. :)

The scene caught my eye, since I watched the film shortly after getting into a discussion about whether or not McCoy is really racist. McCoy's attitude toward the Klingons (I think he was the one who proposed the toast) and his support of Spock really struck me.

I understand not wanting to watch the abysmal TFF, but you have seen the camping scene right? It's pretty amazing, and Bones is definitely snarky towards Spock there.

Yeah, I don't think there's a 100% change in the banter, but there are some subtle differences. ;)

LOL, no worries! I just think it's funny when I bump into people I know from one community in another community. xD
