Oh, wow, I remember everything about #1 EXCEPT the title. Dean was taken in by an older couple - they had an Italian last name, i think, that he changed his name to. The old woman died, but he was still living with the old man - who owned the car repair shop. He meets Sam when Sam either brings his crappy car in for some work, or walks in looking for a job. They end up messing around at the shop at one point. Sam spends a lot of time at the house instead of in his dorm, doing his homework. Eventually Sam's foster dad shows up with the news about them being brothers. There was a box from John with a letter/photos? Or...maybe the stuff from John comes in the mail later? And the foster dad just shows up with a file on Dean showing he was abused before he ran away from the system and came to the people that took him in? It was a good story - hopefully someone remembers the title....
