The Immortal Game (Gen, R) SPOILERS for 6x22

Bishop to H5. Check.
Crowley screams as he is consumed by fire, along with his bones. He knows he'll come back, he knows he will, but that doesn't make this hurt any less.

Pawn to G6.
Crowley comes back to himself on the cold hard tiles of his newly reformed Hell. He stands up, dusts off his pants, and walks down the endless hall of souls, smiling.

Queen to A5. Check.
Castiel coughs up a mouthful of blood and looks down at his hands in shock. They're glowing, leaking grace and power and he doesn't know what to do - he's lived for eons and he just doesn't know anything anymore.

Knight to B3.
Dean kneels next to where Castiel has fallen and takes his hands. "Let go, Cas. You have to let it go. It's okay."

Queen takes Knight.
The Wall collapses and Sam screams.
Dean hears him screaming, but he can't see. It's too bright- it's just too damn bright.
Castiel stops holding the light in, and lets it consume him.
Sam stops screaming.

'Checkmate.' Death leans back in his chair and smiles across the chessboard at his Opponent.

A few weeks ago- after ep 18 I think, a group of us were chatting online and decided that Death should be in the season finale, along with God - playing chess. This prompt finally told me what they were playing.

Loss (Speculation based on the 6.21 promo)

Dean kneels broken in the grass. Sam thinks he’s seen Dean like this before, from another plane, maybe, or maybe from a time his mind can’t get a grip on. He doesn’t try to remember. He owes Dean that much, to try as hard as he can to make sure his brother doesn’t have to lose anyone else. At least not today.

She might only be sleeping in Dean’s arms, the way she probably had so many times before, but Sam can see the blood on his brother’s hands.

How, Sammy, Dean asks, voice like grinding glass. How am I supposed to …

Sam leans down, lifts her gently from Dean’s arms, and Dean lets him take her. He almost seems grateful.

The blaze of fire lights the sky. Sam doesn’t look at it; he feels thin and fragile and he owes Dean that much. Dawn is rising when they reach the Impala, and Dean stares across the front wheels at Sam like he’s noticing him for the first time.

I'm really, really glad it didn't happen this way. I mean ... gah, Dean. At this point it almost seems like a toss-up which is worse, to be cursed so all your women die à la Sam and Bobby and John, or to have them live and to have to lose them anyway. :(:(
