He hadn't noticed anything wrong, at first. They'd spent the afternoon in the woods, looking for the remains of Maynard Sidebottoms - the name endlessly amused Dean - and there had been wind cooling the air and soothing the burn of the sun. He hadn't felt anything.

But now they were back at the motel, and Sam took a look at him and said, a hint of laughter in his voice: "Wow, dude, you're red!"

"I'm not," Dean retorted on cue, but he still went in the bathroom to look at himself in the mirror.

He was, indeed, as red as a tomato. His forehead, his nose, his cheeks. His neck, also, especially where it meets his shoulders. A dreadful feeling was creeping over him and he looked down on himself; the skin on his arms were of a bright red. And there was worse. An unfortunate turn of fate had caused all his jeans to be dirty at the same time, and he'd been obliged to wear some old shorts - it was that or walking around in his boxers. In consequence, his legs were as red as a lobster from a little above his knees to his ankles.

"Holy shit! ( ... )

Dean waited for a few minutes, mulling over how unlucky he was, how unfair what happened to him was and did God hate him or what, before he went back into the bathroom. He stripped off slowly with muttered curses. His skin felt tight, now, sensitive. The lightest brush of cloth against it was painful, making him wince. It was nothing, though, compared to what he felt when he let the water run down his body.

Dean yelled in pain.

"Dean?" Sam called, voice tinged with worry.

God, Sam was back already, of course. Fucker was faster than lightening when he wanted to.

"I'm fine!" he shouted, and cringed when he heard himself sounding a little high-pitched.

"You sure? Because you shrieked, man."

"I did not! Now leave me the fuck alone! Can't a guy have some privacy when he's in the bathroom ( ... )

God bless you for the unexpected but very, very welcome image of Dean naked in the shower. :D

And then Sam rubs him with cream... I'm going to have sweet dreams tonight...

HA!

Anyway, great fic. Do us all a favor and write more h/c!! Such a cute little snippet. I love how Sammy can't sleep because Dean is so uncomfortable. And you know I've managed to fry myself a few times this summer, so I can definitely feel Dean's pain. Sunburns SUCK.

A/N: Okay, not much comfort, but plenty of hurt for Dean. I suppose Sam helping him walk would be part of the comfort *shrugs*

Jack and Jill went up a hill to fetch a pail of water. Jack fell down and broke his crown and Jill came tumbling after, Dean remembered that rhyme as he himself tumbled down the rocky hill. He and Sam had been running to lure a Wendigo from his hiding place when Dean had lost his footing and fell head over heels down the hill. He could hear Sam calling his name above him on the top of the hill as he fell. Dean tried to reach out and grab something that would halt his sharp descent, but the effort was in vain. A moment later, he came to the end where it dropped off and Dean felt something strike his head hard before he lost his vision to black. What seemed like hours later, he felt his entire world shaking. First thought was: oh crap, earthquake! The second thought was: what the Hell? There's no earthquakes here ( ... )

The Voicemail of Doom. Without any excessive guilt or weepiness, please. Dean's trying to figure out their plan of action, holed up in a motel room after Lucifer's release. Sam's slightly perturbed that he's not dead yet. At some point he pulls out his cell phone and listens to the message - which is still there in all its painful glory. Dean (after all the secret phone calls of the past few months) wants to know what Sam's listening to.

Dean had been staring at the same spot on the wall paper for almost an hour. If he looked at it hard enough, the mottled metallic design started to look like a bear, or a sea monster, or an airplane. Sometimes, though, it looked like the face of a person--gold and bronze dots converging into an ugly face, sneering, laughing. He scrubbed a hand across his face, and shook his head. He needed to move. They needed to move. But where? Lucifer had been out of his little cage for eight hours now, and for the life of him, Dean couldn't figure out where to even fucking startSam hadn't said a word. Not one word that wasn't a one-syllable answer to a direct question, and that was fine. Given the choice between sharing-and-caring and silent brooding, Dean was fine for now with the second. He didn't know what to say. He didn't know where to start with that, either ( ... )

Awesome use of the prompt! For something short, there's a terrific bulid up to that moment of revelation.
