Heh, that makes me think of the book A Little Princess -- Sara Crewe had a lot of tribulations, but she was definitely a stoic woobie of steel rather than a limp woobie, and she spent a lot of time staring levelly at people and thinking critical thoughts. I could cope with a that model of little princess Sam.

I think part of it is actor gossip but if I have to talk about "Joe", Jesus fucking Christ why does this fandom attract all the crazies?

I never understood what he did that was so terrible. Goss hates him but you can't exactly go by that. They hate everyone, and everything they think is irrational.

Assuming your reasons for disliking him are not goss reasons, I'd love you to grouch on the gossip post!

I <3 it so much. That's my Sam'n'Dean, the ones I fell in love with. Only Dean is allowed to pick on Sam, heh.
Beautiful, and the artist has a better grip on characterization than the current Showrunner has.

Story/Age reversal - how would things have worked out?

I read a story last week that switched Sam and Dean's ages, so that Sam was the older brother and Dean the younger. It still had Sam going off to Stanford at age 18, while Dean (14) stayed with John. The characterization didn't work for me much but when I stopped to think about it, I realized I have no idea what I think actually would have happened, had Sam been the older brother.

So what do you guys think? Would Sam still have escaped to university as quickly as possible? Would Dean have as much of a need to try to put himself between John and Sam or be as devoted to following John's example and being a hunter? How would Sam have handled it if it were Dean who had been given YED's blood and had visions? How would Dean have handled it if Sam made a deal and went to Hell to save Dean's life?

My guessis that Sam would have escaped but he would have take Dean with him. I think it would have scared Sam to see Dean's devotion to a lifestyle he himself didn't want. Dean may have ended up hating Sam for taking him away from John.

But handling the demon blood and such - I think it would be pretty much the same.

Oooh. I like the idea that Sam would have taken Dean with him and that Dean would have resented him for it! Though I'm not sure how John would have reacted to it. I guess it would depend on whether he thought Dean was being targeted or not? It's not made clear in canon when John figured out Sam was in danger, right?

No show is very vague on what John knew and how abd when he got to know it. Both boy seemed to think it was purely a revenge for Mary and saving people in general.

I think Dean at 14 would idolize Dad and find what he did heroic, so yeah, he'd hate Sam. But I think maybe John would think he'd not be able to raise a boy without the help of the older brother?
