Oh god, so much I love about this. It's just, THIS IS SO PERFECT. I LITERALLY COULD NOT ASK FOR ANYTHING BETTER. SO AMAZINGLY PERFECT. THEY'RE STUCK TOGETHER AND FORCED TO DEAL WITH EACH OTHER. oh god that is so amazing, how much do I love that, A LOT A LOT. Wonderful application of that trope and I just LOVE how they fought and clashed and yet grew closer together against their will. And the sex scene was smoking hot but also kinda sweet and snarky and lovely and Eeeek! Love the moment afterwards, on the bed with them, from Jo's POV, that's almost hopeful before reality ruins it. And I love how they almost sorta of bonded, in a way, and there's a respect between them but it's not enough and they still go their seperate ways. OH. AND I LOVE ELLEN'S REOCCURRING PRESENCE HERE. LOVE ELLEN SO MUCH <3___<3 Also, love, LOVE Rachel. Love how she said, "

I love the scene in which they “test their leash”. The way they push back and back as far as they can until they have to come back together, desperately and so unashamedly. It’s incredibly open and vulnerable even as they’re arguing and disagreeing and hating each other just a little bit. Really striking :D

You're going to get through this, she thought to herself. You're a Harvelle. Pull yourself together.
Hell yeah you will, Jo. That’s my girl! (Well, Ellen’s. Because apparently fictional moms as fierce as this one have the power to strike fear in my heart over ownership claims.)

Seeing her mom in that empty kitchen, her face bruised thick with anxiety and exhaustion, made Jo want to yell and rage and smash things. Instead she'd run again in the middle of the night.
I love the imagery and I love Jo’s reaction. How is it that this story already feels almost as much about Ellen as it does about Bela and Jo?

"Not exactly," she said. "A bystander, kind of."

"Don't worry, Mom. I'm not being stupid about it. I promise."I love

She wore a bright red peacoat and Jo, who had never owned anything that would make her so conspicuous, had desperately coveted it
I love what this says about Jo.

They rolled over and over, limbs curling around one another, searching for for leverage.
Careful, a double “for”!

They dug hands into hair, into the soft skin of asses and the bones of hips. They slid fingers over peaked nipples, across soft bellies, between sweat-damp thighs.
I love these sentences. They’re sort of unusual - honest and unadorned in a way fandom’s sex scenes don’t tend to be - but maybe all the more intimate and sensual for it. It makes the imagery really stark!

"A B?" Bela said, outraged.
You just made me laugh out loud - for real, not a lol - in the middle of a sex scene. It’s so perfectly them and so perfectly Bela. I love characterization in moments like these, when it’s not just insert X and Y on the page.

But Bela stiffened next to her and pulled away, rolling off the bed and making straight for the bathroom

And, y'know, I always saw them separating at the end of this story -- it's a non-AU, and that was important to the story for me. But I think you and I can imagine a million ways this story continues in glorious AU fashion.

-- After Jo goes to see her mom, she tracks Bela down, bullies her into striking up a partnership again, and then helps save her from Hell. Possibly with help from Ellen, Bobby, Pamela, Rufus, and Tamara. And maaaaaybe those Winchester boys.
-- Bela gets all the way to New York before she turns around (though she stops to pick up her cat. and a briefcase of extremely valuable items stashed carefully in her apartment), and uses the bug she installed in Jo's phone to track her down. Shenanigans ensue.
-- They run into one another again and start up a supernatural detective agency. (Saving Bela from her deal is their first job. Unpaid, unfortunately, unless you count the potential loss of resources/knowledge/future earnings that not-doing-the-job would entail. Bela does count this.)
