I love dancing in stories. Dancing with each other by nature requires the couple to be physically close, and done with a partner you're attracted to, it can be very intimate, sensual, or, as Jensen says in one of the stories below, like sex. I'm particularly fond of the ballroom dancing kind, but clubbing is great, too, so below you'll find both. And if you know more, I'm all ears!
To Better Suit Your Moves by
insomnia_geekWhen Jared's dance partner leaves him because Jared dared to dance non-approved steps at a competition, beginning dancer Jensen has a proposition that could benefit them both.
This story is based on Strictly Ballroom - which is one of my favorite movies. It sticks pretty close to the movie but doesn't neglect the fact that Jared dances - and falls in love - with a man, which is a scandal of its own. Since it's the nature of ballroom dance to have the man leading and the woman following, I was a bit worried at first that Jensen would by default get turned into the girl - I was happy to note that this was not the case. Despite being the beginner Jensen gives as good as he gets and he teaches Jared just as much as Jared teaches him. (Also, the dancing scenes are almost hotter than the sex scenes.)
Club Can't Handle Us by
dugindeepJensen does not go clubbing. Until Chad brings his roommate.
Good and hot, everything a night of clubbing and flirting and, well, foreplay should be. I also like the little moment when they go outside to catch some air and still can't let go of each other. Or stop dancing.
The Mysterious Incident of the Princesses in the Night-time by
scintilla10Jensen is sent to relieve twelve princesses of a curse. Unfortunately princesses are not Jensen's type.
I admit it: My favorite part of this has nothing to do with the dancing, and that's when Jensen meets the witch who later sends him to the princesses' palace. "There is only one correct response" when she asks him if he's got any food to spare. Cracks me up every time. But the dancing he does with Jared is nicely done, too, sweet and gentle.
Caught in a Spin by
dark_reaction (plus the sequel:
The Lead Is Forward)
A typical high school AU, struggling with hormones, new feelings - and ballroom lessons.
I tried to come up with why exactly I love this story, why it's one that I still remember reading four years after it's been written, but I can't. I just do. Of the dancing I love the awkwardness of the first lessons and how they get more confident, just as their feelings do.
(Bonus because this has been recced recently for a different theme)
Putting My Life on the Brink by
lazy_dazeAfter an unplanned wedding in Las Vegas, Jensen and Jared are forced to stay together if they actually want to get the money they won the morning after.
Dancing is not a huge part of this story - it's just a small-ish scene, but I've always thought that it was a bit of a turning point, when both characters realize that being married to each other isn't such a bad thing, after all. And I really like it as such.
