Open Season for Ants

Last summer, a mysterious ant problem arose in the house. They would show up in the bathroom one day to eat some cat sick, then upstairs in the office to take advantage of a dish left out the night before-scads of them building tiny scent laced black ant highways through our house ( Read more... )

I've had awesome luck with the traps. I forget who makes them but there are these liquid poison traps in a little plastic box. It takes 2-3 days for them to work but after that i don't see them in that area of the house (kitchen, bathroom etc.) for at least a year.
I usually trace the line back as far as I can inside the house and leave the trap there.

I tried the raid ant traps last summer (cream colored) total bs. THey waltzed right past them to eat something else. I think these ants are so well established here that they have some memory of a Raid event. I will proably try again, though.

It might be bad form, but when we had an infestation coming in through my kitchen window, I lambasted the trail inside and out with windex, then heaped a pile of sugar on the brick wall outside. I figured if they had a food source outside, they certainly wouldn't be coming inside looking for snacks. That plus annihilating their trail kept them from coming back.

cool, yeah, I was thinking of a dish full of sweet something right on the other side of the wall. They walked across carpet this time, so annihilating their trail.. well hopefully the vacuum did the trick...*checking* It didn't. Theyre wandering haplessly looking for the OJ I took away yesterday. *fist shaking*

i know this is no help......but amanda there is this poison so powerful it makes you question how many mutants you will spawn after you contact it. not amdro (or whatever) - it is best described as "death dust", "devil dust".....i can give you the name but i don't want to get near it. it kills so quickly that all the ants died as i bought it, lol.
