I've been doing fine.

[That's a lie. It's been very difficult as he can't seem to stop thinking about everything that happened in that period between life and death, but he's not going to tell anyone that.]

He's a friend of yours, I'm assuming. You seem worried about him.

...

Alexander has done a lot of stupid things since I've arrived, but I never thought he would be consumed by such an evil...

Did you ever think him capable of it?

I have witnessed him destroying, but he is adamant in his actions. He says he doesn't hurt humans, he fights monsters. Monsters of different types in his world. He loves the thrill of the chase, that should say enough.

[ He lets out a sigh. ] I... again, apologize that you were caught up in this.

[There's a silence, as Leoben considers this. He's told a few people, but it isn't readily apparent that he isn't human, so either Alexander figured it out or it was just a coincidence.]

You don't have to apologize.

But I do, because I saved him after his attack. I did not know he was in charge of the murders at the time, he was... dead by the time I found him.

[ He sighs sadly. ] And still, here I am still helping what one would call a criminal. Or perhaps, he is a monster in his own right.

[Yeah, Leoben is rather conflicted over this information. Not to mention what would happen if he and Darkov ever did manage to meet.]

You do have the option of not helping him. You could just give him up.

I consider him... my friend.

...

I consider very few people to be my friend. I am fine with being punished if it means I have done what I feel is right. Even criminals deserve fair and proper treatment.

[Leoben nods. Congratulations Edel. You have now joined Leoben's collection of interesting people. You'll never be rid of him now.]

If you knew he was going to get fair and proper treatment as a criminal, would you give him up?

[ Aww Leoben, so nice. ]

I will walk with him. It is the least I could do.

You may a difficult path ahead of you.

[ What's that? A smile? ]

It's to be expected. I'm used to it by now. I would much rather live like this than recall the numbness of being a monster, or that of becoming one.

Many people would rather search for an easier path.

Has that happened before?

[ There is a startling pause. It's a combination of Edel's weariness and the nature of that question.

He looks away
but a laugh slips from him. A stressed, irrational laugh. ]

Did you know? People from my world turn into monsters if they can not control themselves. Magic- that's what it's called in most worlds, it can consume those who are weak-willed.

[ And he looks at Leoben now, his expression darkens, but there is still that twitch of a smile. Perhaps it is slightly cruel to look at, for Edel only feels a touch of pain as he speaks- ]

Those who fear can not control what lies within, Leoben Conoy.

[It seems he's touched on a difficult subject. Though it makes him slightly wary as well. Magic is proving to be far too unpredictable, even for him. Still, he's gaining some understanding.]

You've been close to the edge, haven't you.
