Oh, DeeDee, it was more my fault than anything. I should know that arguing with Death, and even the son of Death has to be most ludicrous thing I've ever done. [She places a hand on the top of his head.]

Order takes a lot of things. And I should respect that, since, while Death has no order, in a way, that is order. You have every right to be who you are. You're going to be the one in the black robes one day. I should be happy that the universe will have someone so committed to watch over.

[She lifted her hand from the top of his head, careful to not muss his hair.] Sometimes I lose track of where being rebellious can veer right into being a brat. And I apologize.

[ He definitely feels better getting that off his chest, and that she apologized as well was a surprise but not an unwelcome one. It felt like the same sort of reprieve he felt in the instant whenever he made something symmetrical that hadn't been; a brief moment of perfect and total solace. ]

I'm glad we can put that behind us.

[foreseen_future]

Mhmm. Me too, DeDee. [She rubs his cheek with her thumb.] Now, we just need to figure out someway to make sure you don't have any of those attacks, like you had last time.

[ A brief flashback, an electric jolt of she pinched his cheek only one cheek but it's all right, he just holds still and the flutter in his stomach goes away after a moment. ]

Ah, well... [ uncomfortably ] It's not usually that bad.

[Lets the mixing spoon in the bowl and crouches down to Kid's level.]

I'm worried. Really worried. I was so scared when you had that attack, DeeDee. I've seen it happen with other kids, as well, and it scares the sprocking hells out of me that I can't do much until the paramedics arrive, or one of my teammates works their power over them to calm the kids down.

[she bites her lower lip. she's honestly worried.]

[ He's being put on the spot, but he deserves it for worrying others. ]

There isn't any need to call anyone or anything like that. Liz and Patty usually try to get me focused on something else, but most of the time it's not really... that is, my friends don't seem troubled by it, they just ignore...

[ mostly exasperated, very occasionally amused. ]

But that's not how I react to something like your attacks. I never find any discomfort like what you experience, something to ignore or be amused from. While you may be Death's son, and function much differently from the average sentient being, I worry that this puts a large amount of discomfort on you.

[She squeezes his shoulder.] Perhaps you need something to concentrate on. Something that will always be symmetrical, Symmetry is your guideline, right?

But I don't want to want to be very different from everyone. I really don't mind their reactions, or lack thereof. Making things neat and balanced is just something I-- [ need; fixate on; compulse over; am consumed by; ] --like doing. I don't want them to treat me differently than anyone else.

[ he sounds like he's really trying to convince her ]

Yes, any kind of symmetry. [ another pause ] I like bilateral symmetry the best, though. But also certain types of numbers, or words like palindromes. Liz and Patty will remind me about these kind of things when they think I'm getting too distracted.

[Nura bits her lower lip, chin up in thought. finally says:]

I wish you had an exact symmetrical copy of my flight ring.

[ Kid looks at her, unsure what that even was let alone why she would be wishing for something like that. ]

There we go. [There is now an exact symmetrical copy of Nura's flight ring around Kid's index finger. The insignia is now...very odd, and it gives Nura some amusement.]

Amazingly, that is actually what one of the logo suggestions looked like.

[ Kid lifts the ring to study it; he'd seen the one that she wears, but never asked about it before. ]
