[Those who are familiar with the priest probably haven't seen him around much, lately; he sounds a lot more stressed and a lot less carefree than he normally would.]To those of you who are new here, welcome. I suppose you've had the whole thing explained to you about what this place is, so I needn't go into that ( Read more... )

I have no idea either.

But I tried looking all over to see if Splendor's magic has a source, to see what makes the city work, but there's no flow to the magic -- it's just everywhere. There's not even a place where the magic is stronger than everywhere else. Maybe when a wish is being granted, but not quite enough to say it's being concentrated in one place.

I want to find a way home, but... I also want to treasure my experiences here with the people I meet. I don't want to become so desperate that I ignore everything around me.

I haven't ever thought that people should just ignore everything around them, but... it's strange to me how everyone seems to have let it slip from their mind.

Sakura had been helping me before, as had Sebastian. There were others, too -- all gone now. I think the only one who I'd been speaking to about it who's still here is Naoto.

And it doesn't even seem to occur to the people who are new here. Doesn't that strike you as odd?

I really hope the people who have disappeared ended up home. But it's kind of worrying that it just happens instead of them finding a way that others could use. If it's Splendor who's doing it, how does it choose who to send home? Who to bring here?

That is odd, but but of the newcomers I've met, one was pretty irritated about being here, one was questioning everyone as if they were her kidnapper, and one was really worried about his friends back home. I've heard a lot of "where am I" or "I've been kidnapped" over the seals these past couple of days.

....Though it's true that a lot of them get caught up in their fascination with Splendor right after it's explained to them.

It isn't something I'd exactly call as "accepting my fate".

Allow me to find another term for "nobody even remotely discusses the nature of this place and just goes about their life here".

[Flatly; a bit more sarcastic than normal.]

Well, it is as you implied... It isn't that easy, especially when nothing has happened in a while, no opportunities to find out more have presented itself-- even the library doesn't have anything. If I knew what more I could do, I would have done it ages ago.

Ah, but what's with those who have just gotten here? So many of them don't even seem to ask or to look into things themselves; they just go "oh, we're stuck here" and leave it at that...

It's not as if I can do anything to change it right now, right? [He's not usually that passive of a person, and he wasn't when he first arrived, but...] Besides, there's a lot of people here I'd never be able to meet back home.

How do you know if you haven't even looked?

I think it's still possible. The manner in which one would do so is questionable, but if it's possible to escape from the Nine Hells, it's certainly possible to escape from this place.

It's like a nice little break from whatever was going on back home. It gives a guy time to think over his options.

To a certain degree, I suppose. I think it'd be good to keep in mind that... this isn't home, though.

Knowing where you are and why you're there tends to be useful. I mean, I'm a professional adventurer. I'm used to the traveling bit. And the potentially dangerous bit.

A social experiment.

Run by who? The city itself? I still think the city has some degree of self-awareness.

Are we sure there's a "who"?

I would call my world a social experiment, too, but I don't believe in God.

There's no point in a social experiment without someone to rec--

... what do you mean you don't believe in gods. [Pause. To him, this makes zero sense. He is a priest, after all.]

[how mean.]

We~ll, I don't. [so carefree over here.] But given the number of people who seem to be here, isn't being a little disheartened natural?

Only if you think everyone else is making an effort.

[Altair's tone implies that he does not think they are.]
