Why won't it open? [Complete]

Where: The Staircase
When: After Phoenix and Maya leave the teahouse
What: Yuko decides to do the obvious, and leave the city by walking up the staircase.  Or exiting a door, or something.  It's not going well.

Yuko risked a glance over the edge.  She couldn't even see the point where she had started anymore,

Reno opened the door to leave in a hurry. He was running later than usual, and had a meeting he was apparently supposed to get to - or, well, that's what the text message said. So he'd had to chug the beer and run out the door. A fucking shame, too, since he wasn't even really buzzed. Well, whatever, he knew that orders were orders.

He heard the door slam shut behind him a second too late. This sure as hell wasn't where he had come in yet.

Shit, maybe I am drunk, he though, absently. But maybe not. This place didn't even look like it was part of Midgar, let alone where the bar was. Matter of fact, it looked like the Stairway to Heaven or some bullshit.

He turned around and saw that the door he had apparently walked through was still there. Well, cool, he could just go right back through it, then!

Except for the fact that there didn't seem to be a knob on it. Or hinges. He pushed it anyway, and found that it didn't even give a centimeter. Frustrated, he kicked it. The sound of the noise reverberated along the staircase, and he made

Yuko blinked several times in confusion, then let the rubble fall from her limp grip. If he wasn't going to notice that she was about to lob half a steel pipe overhand at his head, she wasn't going to bring it up.

"Uh, looks like I'm locked out,"

"That makes two of us, young man. I'm guessing you were somewhere completely different just a moment ago?" Yuko stood up and went over to the door. The knob was gone. "Hm. The knob is gone too, now. I've been trying to get this door open for the last few minutes. If only you hadn't closed it behind you..."

She looked him over. He looked like he would come from somewhere western in her home world. In that case, the best thing would probably be to shake hands. She extended hers towards him. "My name's Yuko, and I'm afraid you are going to be here for a very long time."

He made a face at her. Ugh, "young man"!

"Reno. Name's Reno," he said, holding out his hand.

He motioned over his shoulder to the door. "Oh, this bullshit? Yeah, I was in a bar, yo. Just mindin' my own fucking business, on the way to some meeting that I didn't want to....SHIT. THE MEETING! Awww, man, the boss is gonna kill me!"

He let his hand fall and began patting his pockets, looking for a cigarette or his phone - whichever he found first would be more than fine.

He paused long enough to ask, "Stuck? Whaddya mean, yo?"

Yuko shook his offered hand.

"Reno. That's an interesting name..." She watched him pat madly at his pockets. Whatever he was looking for, it couldn't do them any good right now. "You were at a bar? It's a pity you didn't bring anything with you. I could really use something to drink about now."

She moved over to the edge of the staircase and looked over. "And by stuck, I mean exactly what I said. You, Reno, have stepped into a different world, in which, at present, there seems to be no exit. Quite a strange thing for those of us who specialize in moving between worlds. I was trying to find a way out when you came in that door." She looked at the door. "I wonder, the door you came through, its knob disappeared when you came in. Maybe they are all one-way doors. One door for each person who enters. It's something to think about, although I didn't come in through a door like that. I just woke up here."

"Well, I wasn't planning on getting trapped in Alternate Universe Land, or I totally fucking would have, yo," he said, a touch of annoyance in his voice.

He looked back at the door, and then at her again, confusion plain on his face.

He finally located his cigarettes and pulled them out. His lighter was much easier to locate, and hit lit the cigarette and inhaled deeply, as if it was the source of all life.

"That's better," he said, before finally managing to focus his attention on her again.
