Why won't it open? [Complete]
Who: Yuko, whoever is exploring the stairs
Where: The Staircase
When: After Phoenix and Maya leave the teahouse
What: Yuko decides to do the obvious, and leave the city by walking up the staircase. Or exiting a door, or something. It's not going well.
Yuko risked a glance over the edge. She couldn't even see the point where she had started anymore, but she could still see that accursed church. "What sort of magic," she murmured to herself, "can make something look bigger and more menacing the further away one gets?" The witch continued to climb the staircase while eying the church, until she half-tripped over a piece of rubble. This part of the staircase was crumbling away at the edge. She moved closer to the wall for safety, and noticed the door.
A door. Okay... The witch reached out and gave the doorknob an experimental tug. Locked. Of course. She pulled an ornament off her dress and prodded experimentally into the lock. Yuko dropped said ornament half a second later as it burst into flame. "That was made out of silver..." she muttered. "Alright, well, if you want to play that way, that's how we will go."
She placed her hand on the door and focused her power at it. She pushed at it mentally, commanding it to open. For half a second, she felt it yield, only to redouble its efforts against her to the point that she lost her concentration and was pushed backwards. "No good..." she said as she rubbed her hand ruefully. It felt like it had fallen asleep. "I can't get through that way without a wish."
Yuko's eyes then strayed to the rubble at her feet. She picked up a piece of stone and threw it at the door. It made a rather satisfying clunk and the stone bounced off. Deciding this was as good a time as any for a breather, Yuko sat down amidst the rubble and began methodically throwing stones and pieces of metal at the door. She was pretty sure it wasn't going to do her any good but hey, it felt good.
