It had been difficult to leave the bar, of course - even after working things out with Asch, he hadn't been too inclined to leave - but Guy could never forget the fact that before his second 'death', he had attacked and very nearly killed Luke. Those thoughts haunted him the first night after he'd awoken, so the very next day he had gotten himself a fresh set of clothes and left to find Luke and apologize. He wasn't expecting forgiveness, or anything, really, but that didn't stop him ( ... )

When the knock came, Luke looked up and moved his hands away from his mouth. He didn't want his mom to think he'd been scratching. But as the door eased open, and the person outside stepped in, Luke's heart stopped beating for a moment.

Guy.

He stared, mouth dropping open, and eyes fixed on the face of blonde. His brain ground to a halt as he tried to comprehend how his dead best friend was standing right in front of him. He stuttered something incoherent after a second, and then stopped. This was impossible.

Guy paused, slightly uneasy at the sight of Luke's expression. Hadn't Asch told them that he might come back? Or had he been too angry to mention it?

Or maybe Luke had forgotten, or hadn't believed it...?

Either way, the younger man was clearly disturbed by the sight of him standing there, alive. He scratched the back of his head a bit nervously, smiled, and stepped further into the room, closing the door behind him. "...Hey, Luke... sorry to startle you like this."

Well, it was a start, anyway.

After a second, Luke finally snapped out of it. He pushed the blankets off of himself and slowly got to his feet, before reaching a hand up and grasping lightly at his chest. His eyes flooded with tears, and he drew a shaky breath, mind and heart racing with a billion and one questions.

"Is that... is it really you? I haven't completely started hallucinating, have I?" Luke's lower jaw began to tremble. He was afraid his fever had spiked and he was just seeing things. Please, he begged, don't let that be what was happening.

Guy winced, a sympathetic look crossing his expression. Luke looked terrible - worse than any illness he'd seen in the years he'd known the boy, worse than the headaches, even. He finally stepped away from the door and approached the bed, making sure that none of his movements were threatening in any way, and reached out to gently grasp Luke's arms, holding him steady. He didn't want his friend to fall over. His skin was burning up, looking scratched and sunburned. What in the world had he come down with?

... Or was it the remnants of his attack...?

He shook it aside. Now wasn't the time for fretting - it was time to listen to what Luke had to say. "I'm not a hallucination, I promise. It's really me... I'm back."

Not just physically, either. He was himself again, and he was so grateful to be back. Luke didn't look angry, either, which was such a relief...
