He really needed a cigarette, but he doubted that he'd find one.
So he took to the streets, trying to find peace. It wasn't helping, but at least it was providing him with fresh air and a new location.
He hadn't made it far before he ran into another person. She collided with him - the girl obviously wasn't paying attention, but he wasn't really either. He waved off her apology; their encounter had been a pure accident.
"It's all right."

She was being ridiculous. She was a Dragon of Earth, for crying out loud; if she was to do anything, she'd have to learn to suck it up.
With a deep breath that shook more than she would have liked, Ema straightened herself and forced herself to look him in the eye. "My name is Ema, Ema Skye."

But this was a girl. How much trouble could she cause? Don't lie to yourself Subaru, you do know how much a young girl could cause. Or at least you should know. But it was odd that she was out alone. This most certainly was not a place for anyone to be alone. "If it isn't too forward of me to ask, what are you doing out here?"

Silly name or not, something about him seemed awfully secretive. There was once a time in which Ema would have written him off as merely shy; now, she was a bit skeptical. Why was he hesitant to even talk to her?
In response to his inquiry, she hoisted her bag up a bit higher on her shoulder. "I just needed air." She tried not to sound defensive, she really did. Whether or not she was successful was another story.

Ema whipped around, her eyes darting around to find the source of the voice: Kamui. Had he been watching this whole time? A pit formed in Ema's stomach; if he had been watching, had she been strong enough against Subaru? She hadn't shown any weakness... had she?
Obviously not, because Kamui didn't address the issue at all. He wasn't there for a progress report, he was there for a delivery. Maora, of all people, dropped to the ground at his feet, and Ema felt everything inside of her tense further.
Was Maora the person who had hurt her the most? Of course not, but with Chief Gant nowhere in Spiral and with Matt Engarde dead or gone or perhaps both, Maora would have to be the one to suffer for the three of them. For the sins of all of them. Ema narrowed her eyes at the figure under Kamui's foot as he cried for help. There would be no mercy ( ... )

"They have the right to destroy. And since they've been destroying the earth, isn't it her right to retaliate?" There was a cold gleam in his eye as he looked over the boy in the white trench coat. Not that he was that much more intimidating, nor was he trying to be. It was merely the look he tended to give everyone.
As Subaru's eyes turned to the ground, Fuuma mused, "has your instinct as a dragon of heaven kicked in? Are you willing to protect this boy at all costs? I'm sure that might create a conflict of interest ( ... )
