Vergil stood at the base of that stairs, scanning the area around him half-heartedly. The longer he stuck around this place, the more he grew bored with it. For as ominous as the place seemed at his arrival, it didn't deliver. For the most part he was bored senseless.

'Is that why I accepted a spar with a complete stranger? Am I really that desperate for excitement that I am willing to fight someone I have never met?'

He shook his head to clear it; there was no sense in over analyzing it now. The deal had been made and he intended to keep his end of it.

Now all he needed was a sparring partner.

No time for doubts anymore. There was already someone waiting there, and Ky hoped it was the right person. He started to slow down his approach, not wanting to startle the other man.

"Excuse me," he said as soon as he was close enough. "Are you... the man who agreed to spar?"

It was such an awkward question, but he really didn't know how else to ask.

Vergil eyed the newcomer wearily; he still wasn't sure what to make of this situation. 'He doesn't seem like too much of a threat, but, then again, looks can be deceiving. This might turn out to be a good fight after all.'

"If you are the one who is looking for someone to sharpen your skills on, then yes."

"That is me, yes." Ky relaxed a little in relief. "Thank you for agreeing to come out here."

Something about this man seemed a little unnerving. He certainly seemed like someone who could fight well. And he did seem to have a sort of class, instead of just being a brute. (The thought of which brought up the image of another certain other who he always fought with, but he quickly dispelled it.) Still, he couldn't shake the feeling.

"My name is Ky Kiske," he said politely. "It's nice to meet you, sir."

The defensive postition worked; Vergil's sword collided hard with Ky's. Vergil smirked a little, the other man was now giving him the run for his money.

Sensing that this plan of attack wasn't going to work, Vergil took off skyward. He figured if he could hit the ground before Ky noticed that he was even gone, he would be able to gain the upper hand. It was always easier to win when your opponent was confused.

He hit the ground shortly after goign airborne and charged again, hoping the other man was still oblivious.

The moment Vergil disappeared, Ky knew he wouldn't be able to catch the other man in time. He did the best he could, trying to turn around while surrounding himself in a small lightning charge as a defense. It usually took longer for him to be completely enveloped in lightning, so the little time he had to react didn't build up enough of a charge. If Vergil could brush off the earlier attacks, this was probably nothing.

Nevertheless, it was always worth trying. Ky braced himself for the hit that was going to come.

The charge itself didn't stop him, it was that bolt of pain the charge sent through his nerves that stopped him dead in his tracks. The pain wasn't intense, but it was enough to bring his attack to an end.

He hated that weakness, but he still hadn't been able to conquer it. Anything that sent a shock up his spine always brought back thoughts of the Dark Lord's punishments.

Vergil knew that he had to make another move, lest Ky take advantage of his weakness, but he couldn't bring himself to move.

Ky was surprised, to say the least, that his last ditch effort actually worked. Or had some sort of effect. Or was even considered at all.

Not that he doubted what he or the Fuuraiken could do, but it was just... unexpected.

It only lasted a second, as his body was already in motion. He ran up to where Vergil remained stunned and swung his blade, stopping it just short of the man's neck.

He paused like that, waiting for Vergil to recover. He was starting to feel a little concerned.
