1) Not a huge fan of "Atlas Shrugged" or just about anything by Ayn Rand, but I know others would argue against that. 2) A new one, but likely a cozy fantasy or a fun mystery, to keep the mood light. 3) By mood, but not by season. Never a bad time for a fantasy book or a good mystery, I think. Or a biography if it's interesting enough. 4) Hmm...I tend to not start series that don't have an end yet (not since Wheel of Time and Game of Thrones both burned me), so single, complete stories just feel safer, I guess. If there's a finished trilogy of something though, I will definitely go for that. 5) The Neverending Story. Still my favorite fantasy book of all time. Although for a more recent read, I'd say The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. There's some beautiful prose in that story. I love it.
Ayn Rand isn't the easiest read. My first boss adored it.
There are only a couple of series I've actually finished and they've been disappointing at best. Usually, I wander away about halfway through for one reason or another.
1-I'm more read what you want, and don't read books just because "you're supposed to read XYZ books" because it's considered a classic or popular to read.
2-Something new. I don't reread books if I'm traveling/on vacation somewhere.
3-Nope. I read books whatever genre they are anytime of the year.
4-It depends. If it's an author like Stephen King, I can enjoy his stand alone novels or series like The Dark Tower. I haven't read his Mr Mercedes trilogy yet.
5-Not really. I do enjoy rereading books and compare it to how I first experienced reading them and have the appreciation or the understanding of what I read over again.
1. Most everyone will recommend a book or two to read, but are there any you would tell people to avoid?
I don't really know of any book that I would categorically tell everyone not to read. I wouldn't read Mein Kampf on a bet and I certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I have read In Cold Blood and I wished after I was done, that I hadn't. I'm not even sure why I thought it was a good idea to read it in the first place.
2. If you take a book on vacation, are you more likely to take something you haven't read yet or an old favorite?
I have an Ipad that I take everywhere with me. On it I have The Harry Potter books, The Stand, and probably a few others that I have read. I also make sure I have something new or actually several books that I haven't read. So, when it's time to read, I can decide, new or old.
3. Do you read any genres by the season? Like horror around Halloween? Cozy Mysteries in the Winter? Romance in the Summer?
I don't change my style of reading depending on the season.

That's my philosophy, too. I'm always just happy to see people reading.
I never thought about reading a certain book at a certain time of the year...

Yeah, Cold Blood is hard. I gave up on true crime after that.
Decisions, decisions! :DD
I thought it a rather odd question, although I know I have movies that I will watch at a certain time of the year...
