Steel as a teenager, That is a scary thought. Excellent use of the words!

Mine is sort of cheating. It’s a “tag” scene to a short story I recently wrote for the Short Affair challenge on Section 7.

This is a critical mission, gentlemen. Even though you are both on light duty, you will serve as coordinators-” Waverly broke off, canting his head. “What is that infernal noise?”

“It sounds like crickets, sir,” said Napoleon.

“Why the devil are there crickets in headquarters? It’s bad enough one was found in the trunk of my car this week.”

“Lisa has been feeding them to your grandson’s turtle,” Illya explained. “Several have escaped.”

“Capture them immediately. I’m a patient man, but I won’t tolerate chirping in my office.”

Neither agent dared suggest finding a different babysitter for the teenager’s pet.

Poor Mr. Waverly. I do love the sound of crickets. Hopefully, the guys were successful!

Good job!

Thanks. Catching crickets takes patience and good reflexes … so 50/50. Maybe they need to bring in the turtle.

I have never really tried to be honest. We don’t have them here as a rule

Well played, spikesgirl58 and dancingpony!

Here is mine.

“Trunky Treats?”
“No, Illya, ‘Trunk or Treat.’ It’s a new thing where kids go from car to car in a parking lot and get candies for Halloween.”
“You mean car boots?” The Russian quirked a critical eyebrow. “That doesn’t sound exactly cricket. No trudging from house to house? I mean, the kids hardly have to work for the sweets…”
Napoleon laughed. “We just have to be patient and serve candy. All the departments will be there. And I know the teenagers especially love to check out the Piranha.”
“Only one problem,” Illya offered grImly. “That car has no boot!”

I'm with Illya. Kids should be made to work for their treats.

And I like the English vs. American words Illya throws in.

It's a fun little scene, olden_fan.

This is great fun, Spike. I can see & hear it so clearly. A great use of words.

What is pickleball???

Curling I enjoy watching - but I can understand how it can be seen as tedious.

Thanks so very much.

From Wikipedia - Pickleball is a racket or paddle sport in which two (singles) or four (doubles) players hit a perforated, hollow plastic ball with paddles over a 34-inch-high (0.86 m) net until one side is unable to return the ball or commits an infraction. Pickleball is played indoors and outdoors. It was invented in 1965 as a children's backyard game in the United States, on Bainbridge Island in Washington state.

I had to use them because I'm not sure what it is either, although it is very popular here now.

Curling is fun, but it's not for everyone.
