Oooh, the food sounds good. Where are you staying/eating? Don't forget I'm just down the road (60 miles or so) and I'd love to meet up if you have time in your busy schedule.
We're staying at the Hotel Portmeirion and are on the American Plan, so we have breakfast and dinner included in the room charge. That sort of limits us to where we eat(either here or the castle). Still it's only for a few nights and the food is very good.
Considering how long it took us to get here (driving wise), I don't think we will be going much farther than Porthmadog or the Snowdonian park. I thought it was be much faster driving, but with these narrow roads - eek.
There's still plenty to see without too much driving. Harlech Castle is just a short drive from where you are. Snowdonia is wonderful for walking (I like the area around Capel Curig) and a hike up Snowdon itself will only take you half a day - or you can always take the train to the summit! Then there's the steam railway at Blaenau Ffestiniog. Beddgelert is nice - do you know the legend? It's a nice run along the coast to Criccieth and Pwllheli, or you can keep going to Aberdaron at the very tip of the peninsula. Caernarfon isn't far, nor is Conwy, Llandudno and the Great Orme.
The Big Guy hasn't stopped talking about the train to the summit, so I suspect we will go that route. There's also a slate mine around here that he is crazy to see. I don't know the legend about Beddgelert, but I bought a book on supernatural Wales, so maybe it's in there.
oh dear and yes if they've given you a bigger car you'll have even more difficulty with the stone walls. See, this is one of the reasons why I don't drive, I have absolutely no spacial awareness and my dyspraxia and the narrow bendy roads would be a regrettable combination.
Well, it's what we'd call a small car in the states, but here it seems almost too larger for the roads. I made a comment about how narrow the trucks were - now I know why!
lol Cosmo's friend Char was showing me a photo of her "average not particularly large" car, she lives in urban central Memphis and has no children/pets/heavy pianos to move about that I know of.
And I was just like....."*pause* i didnt realise you were planning on invading a small west african country." I would have described it more as an armoured vehicle for repelling the Taliban than a car for inner-city living. It basically looked like a small tank to me. Mind you I would have thought generally the cars will be bigger in Wales than in London cause of more demand for 4 wheel drive.
You'd drop your teeth if you saw the size of our Bronco. It's quite large and while we haven't hauled a piano in it (unless you could an electronic keyboard), we have carried just about everything else. It's rubbish on gas mileage, but we love it. Sadly, it is wider than most of these two-lane roads here.
Oh, the narrow roads... reminds me of our host in Cornwall who asked us about how big was our car... Then, he told us about wonderful places... then we understood his question about the car... Basil ice cream... Mmmm.... I love basil! Enjoy, my friend!

Yes, I can understand now about the road. My new saying is, "Too close, too close!"

Yuum, food. Oh, that's what the foamy dish was! It didn't look appetizing, agreed, but that's good to hear that it tasted better than it looked!
