Well, that was different.

Have you ever started working on a story, figuring a few hundred words and it would be done, only to have it take on a life of its own? I was working on a Halloween story, anxious to be done before I got my 'Spook Me' prompts. I got them first, but at least it was the impetus to get the other fic done - all 3,300 words of it. That hasn't ( Read more... )

Did you get your Spook Me prompts? Also, way to go!

I did and they are something else. One is so creepy that I don't even like looking at it. *shudder*

I got mine & one I really liked. The other one was strange. I'll have to print them out & sit & look at them.

At least you don't have to use both of them.

Aww, yes. :) It's the best when that happens <3 And when your own damn characters surprise you.

I'm used to a story taking its own head, but not like this one. It was crazy. It was all I could to do hold on!

Both of these, yes! Once a story takes off, you have to let it go where it wants and tidy it up when it gets there.

Having deliberately avoided even owning a TV after I left home in 1969, it was only when we acquired a laptop with DVD drive about 15 years ago that we started slowly catching up several good series that we missed at the time. For me that includes Sapphire and Steel, and Colditz, and not forgetting my rediscovery of the long-forgotten Man from UNCLE.

However, I confess I'm not a great fan of Downton Abbey or costume drama generally. Entertaining, extremely well made and acted, without doubt, but I find everything much too clean, and they peddle a far too complacent (and complaisant) view of this country's pernicious class divide, which still exists. 'Gosford Park', which I loved, did it better and much more subversively.

I have occasionally eaten fish and chips but they're usually a disappointment, so your experience in London doesn't surprise me at all. You have to go to Whitby.

Actually, the best fish and chips I have had was in a small village in Rorotonga. They are the ones I measure everything else up against.

That I can believe. It's an over-rated thing here, in my view.

We had a great meal at The North Sea, but I think that was because it was our first night, we were loopy and the company was fabulous.

Oh, yes. That's happened to me many times. Stories do take on a life of their own at times.

Reality is rarely how we imagine it to be.

It does me, too, but not like this one did. I just held on and let it go where it wanted. It certainly wasn't the story I was expecting! :D

Thanks! It was an experience.

I am enjoying show a lot and I'm glad that Maggie Smith isn't always a prig in it.

This was back in 1974/75, I think we were being test marketed

I'm glad they dropped that idea.
Can you imagine if they accidentally put the chicken in the fish oil? EWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maggie's character has the best wicked one liners. :)

Ugh, that would not have been tasty at all.

But I'm glad that she's not without a heart.
