You've pretty much hit the nailed the way I see Buffy/Riley and Willow's relationships. I mostly agree on the B/A point (except, for a few reasons, I just don't see the age issue as all that squicky) and I'm really eager to see what you have to say about Buffy/Spike (ewwwww), which IMHO, has always been entirely about Angel :)
I don't necessariy think the age difference is squicky, but it is a major factor. The difference between 16 and 26 is much greater than that between 26-36 or 36-46. And there is the difference in life experiences. S3-Wesley, who seems to be at least 26 and 16 year old Buffy would seem to be on more similar levels (with the maturity edge actually going to Buffy), but Angel's history is a whole 'nother story. I'm working on the next section now, attempting to coherently organize my thoughts, so stop back when it's posted.
Okay - a little wired here. Only managed to sleep for two hours last night. (Did you ever have one of those nights where no position is comfortable and there seems to be weird things in your mattress poking you when you least expect them to and every time you turn over any extremity you happen to be laying on immediately gets pins-and-needles in it? It was one of those nights! Gee! I think I need more coffee!)
Dude, I've totally had those nights. And you spend the entire time checking the clock and then doing the mental math to figure out how many hours of "sleep" you have left til you have to be up...
Yep! *nods like a bobblehead* I was starting to go into crazy sleep-deprived mode and my replies to well-thought-out comments were going wonky, so I thought I'd better step away from the computer with hands in the air and go re-watch Bones. God, I adore Angela! And Zack. Dude! Someone seriously needs to write me some Zack/Andrew pr0n!
Now, I'm not one who watches TV with an eye to hooking up Character A with Character B. Usually, it doesn't even occur to me-it's not my focus.
I'll snap you on that one. Sometimes I wonder if that's why my OTP was a couple that was never going to be canon (except the sly old way that it was alluded to) and didn't even share a screen for the vast majority of the time. It's a low maintenace ship because you don't have to view the show through it.
Oh, and your post - excellent. I nod my head a lot.
Woah! I love your thinky thoughts! I don't think I've ever seen Buffy's relationships compared and contrasted against Willow's and yet it makes perfect sense. Thanks so much for that. It's interesting that ME paid attention to fleshing out the lesser character's relationships yet made a mess out of the protagonists! Looking forward muchly to Part 2.
Part 2 will be coming soon! But not right this minute. I noticed during the answering of the last two comments that I'm getting a little wired from lack of sleep, and I am ceasing to make much with the sense. Going away now to think thinky thoughts which will hopefully eventually become sense-worthy!
