Part 5

Mr Parkman rushed out of the van and hastily found agents McCain and Bennet sitting at a small table at a bar. “What the fuck were you thinking, Bennet?” He exclaimed angrily. Bennet cocked his head to the side smugly in response. Mr Parkman pushed him into the table with intensity. Eden rose and backed away.

“Look, I was doing what I thought would work,” Bennet said calmly. “We need the map and Petrelli has it. Knowing him, he would have his brother keep a hold on it inside that brain of his.”

“Yeah, keep telling yourself that,” Mr Parkman said, slamming Bennet harder against the table before letting up.

“Well, Peter knows where it is, Parkman,” Bennet said rising and adjusting his glasses.

“And he probably told, Nathan so now all we need to do is fucking start over again and find them! And this is all because you and your stupid vendetta against him!” Bennet’s emotions finally cracked.

“He stole my daughter!” Bennet yelled angrily. Mr Parkman frowned.

“She was never yours to begin with, Noah. She was always his. All you did was pretend for a little bit.” Bennet glared at Mr Parkman who stared at the older man with remorse. Bennet had always wanted to have a real family; as did Nathan. They didn’t see eye to eye on how that goal in their lives would be achieved.

Eden meanwhile used her gift. She very politely asked the bartender if he knew where the caves were located and what cave the Kali Chasma Blade was located in. When he gave her a blank look, she asked him again and he so kindly gave her directions. He also told her the object of her desire was in the upper levels of the caves but he didn’t know which one. She smiled and wrote quickly on a piece of old paper the information. She then sauntered up to Mr Parkman and Bennet and held the paper up. The two bickering men looked up and with a breathy grin she said,

“I don’t understand why I couldn’t just do this in the first place.”

Nathan rubbed his forehead as he walked back to the Jeep. His conversation with Claude had done nothing to calm his nerves. He had a daughter having a break down, Sylar and the Agency on his tail plus a brother to take care of. Not to mention how much money was riding on finding the thing. He would never have to take another job again. He could completely settle down and keep Claire with him all the time instead of sending her away to school. And Peter, he could take better care of Peter and keep him away from Claude - the last thing Peter needed was the guilt of knowing on his chest. Nathan could finally get everything normal; as normal as they could get in his family.

Sometimes at night when he couldn’t sleep, Nathan wondered if he really wanted normal.

Gabriel surveyed the map with a pen. He crossed off the bottom row of caves with giant red x’s. Miss Sanders looked over the seat the front seat to get a better view of what the madman was doing. “How do you know?” she asked.

“I just do,” Sylar replied. Miss Sanders laughed.

“Real mature, Gabe. Now tell me or me and DL here stop the car and you can walk.” David Lawrence continued to drive smirking at how hot his wife was when she wanted something. She could be so forceful and sexy. He loved her more than she could understand. Sylar looked up beneath his enormous eyebrows cautiously. He saw Miss Sanders and her smirking face that said, ‘you better or I will’. He then looked back down at the map and continued working. “Gabriel Martha Sylar!” she exclaimed. Sylar slammed the pen down onto the map.

“Damn it, Niki! I’m trying to work out which one it’s in as fast as I can and I can’t do it with you and you’re stupid husband conspiring against me!” At this point David Lawrence snapped his head around.

“Hey!” he said defensively.

“Just let me find it! We all know I’m the brains of this operation!” Sylar snarled. Miss Sanders and David Lawrence turned to each other and then to Sylar. Then the two began to laugh. Sylar glared. “What?”

“You…the brains?” Miss Sanders said slowly.

“Who’s the one who got the map in the first place, Gabriel and knew where to find it?” said David Lawrence.

“Who’s the one who found the job in the beginning,” Sylar responded.

“Who’s the one who found out about the wall,” Miss Sanders said smugly. Sylar breathed out. “See, equal partnership.”

“Yep, equal partnership, baby,” David Lawrence said. Gabriel rolled his eyes and reached under the map throwing the painting at Miss Sanders. She caught it and glanced in wonderment.

“There are paintings of it?” she asked. Gabriel nodded.

“That was done by a particularly talented man who lives in New York City. His girlfriend is an art dealer and what she thinks is art, isn’t. Isaac Mendez can paint the future and this painting is our future.” The couple smiled in wonderment at each other and then at Sylar. As David Lawrence turned his attention back to the road, Miss Sanders handed the painting back to Sylar.

“We’re going to get it first,” she said to him. Gabriel smirked darkly.

“Because the Petrelli’s don’t know about the trap,” he responded.

“We can fly up there,” Peter said looking up at the giant wall of caves.

“Not with all our stuff,” responded Nathan.

“We can make more than one trip. First we take Claire and Mohinder up there and then we’ll come back down.”

“So who’ll carry who?” Claire asked. Nathan looked towards Mohinder with an apologetic gaze and Mohinder swallowed hard. He turned to Peter who smiled in a way that was filled with lust, mischief and kindliness; it frightened Mohinder how easily the three emotions could be read on Peter Petrelli’s face.

“Kensai?” Hiro said to the blonde man sitting on a bench outside the bar, smoking a cigarette. He looked up at Hiro.

“Mmhmm,” he responded with tight lips. He blew out the nicotine filled smoke.

“What does it do?”

“What does what do?”

“The thing that we are finding. Why does it need to be found? How will it save the world?” Mr Monroe smiled at his friend.

“It needs to be found, so that it doesn’t fall into the wrong hands. In the wrong hands…” He trailed off and looked towards the jungle. “It can be very dangerous.” He turned back to Hiro and smirked playfully. “In the right hands, it has the power to save everyone.”

“How?”

“It can…” Mr Monroe laughed. “It can…heal anything. But that’s just one of the amazing talents of the Kali Chasma Blade.”

“It’s a knife.”

“And a good luck charm all in one!” Mr Monroe exclaimed. “You see, anyone who obtains it and knows how to unlock its power, well, they’re the luckiest person in the world. They say it will ward off the evil eye forever. I’m not really quite sure what that means exactly yet, but we’ll find out wont we.” Hiro nodded.  “Plus it’s worth an awful lot of money.”

Nathan, Peter and Mohinder stepped into the dark, wet, cave, Claire trailing behind them. The three men smiled with delight because they had reached it first. Nathan turned his head towards Peter and Mohinder and began to give directions. “Mohinder you read the book, Peter, grab the salt.” The two nodded and rushed to their positions. Peter pulled the bag of salt out the sack as Mohinder reached into his own bag and pulled out an old book. He then turned his attention to Claire. “Claire,” Nathan said starring up at her intensely. She looked up with a blank expression.

“Yeah?” Nathan’s mouth twitched into a small smile.

“Just stand back.” She nodded and stepped back, watching the three men consult a large book the size of dictionary. Peter ripped the edge of the salt bag open and began pouring it to the ground. He created a triangle pointing towards the dead end of the cave. Nathan found a bottle of vodka and proceeded to screw off the top. He stuck his finger in the bottle and then leaned down to the middle of the large salt triangle. Mohinder rushed to his side and showed him the book. Quickly, Nathan copied the inscription to the ground in the invisible liquid.

“What are you doing with the vodka?” Claire asked, sparked with curiosity.

“Writing the code,” her father responded.

“Why in alcohol?”

“Because something pure and clean has to be burned into the ground.” He paused and turned to Claire with a grin. “Alcohol cleans wounds. It’s the most pure thing in the world.” Claire frowned slightly.

“I guess.”

He rose when he finished and stepped back. The professors turned to each other and smiled and then looked at Peter. “Now.” Peter smirked, reached into his pocket and pulled out an odd looking twig.

Claire moved closer to get a better look. “What’s that?” she asked. Nathan quickly shushed her waving his hand as Peter set the stick on fire with his fingers. He let it drop into the middle of the triangle and then jumped back to where Nathan and Mohinder stood. The incantation lit, the ancient language burning in the ground; the three men smirked as the triangle lit and fire went down towards the end of the cave. Her head tilted to the side in wonderment as the fire moved up the wall and created an eye with no pupil before burning out completely.

Then the entire cave began to shake. Dust fell from all around as the dead end began to open, the sounds of rocks shifting echoed loudly. Claire held onto the side of the cave for dear life but the three men in front of her stood there, as if the cave wasn’t about to collapse at any moment. She frowned at them and wondered why her family was so insane.

Back when Mohinder was in university, he had several encounters that would change his life. He walked into a classroom and sat down next to Mohinder, grinning an awful large one. Mohinder nodded slightly before turning back to his paper. “Hey,” said the man with the large grin. Mohinder turned to him.

“Hello,” he said politely. Mohinder noticed he had an odd glint in his eyes. Before he could turn back, the man with the bedroom eyes caught his attention.

“So, genetics huh?” He rose his eyebrows and continued to grin. Mohinder’s in turn sunk down and his mouth went in the opposite direction.

“Yes…This is in fact a genetics class,” Mohinder said slowly. “I take it you’re in this class too?”

“Yep,” said the man. He leaned closer to Mohinder. “To be honest with ya, I don’t know if I’m going to stick with it. Genetics just seem boring to me.” Mohinder laughed sardonically.

“That’s because they are.” The man gave him a confused look.

“Then why are you taking the class?”

“My father is a geneticist.” The man’s grin became a shark like smirk.

“Really now?” he said with a low voice. “What does he do in this field of study?” Mohinder backed away from the man; he felt like poison.

“Genetic-ize,” said Mohinder quickly turning back to his paper. When he slowly gazed back to the man, he was gone. Mohinder exhaled and turned back to his paper. It was then that he noticed the small white square on the edge of his desk. He grabbed the note and opened it quickly.

Meet me in the dining hall at 17.30 tonight if you want more than your father’s life.

Notes: The Kali Chasma Blade-Is complete fabrication. All from my crazy brain, but takes real names! Kali is a hindu G-d. A Chasma is the hand and eye good luck charm in Hebrew and Islam. I basically took the middle eastern religions and put them together. Yay wrongness! The temple is also sort of based on the Indiana Jones ride at Disneyland, so don't like into the eye if you know what's good for you (Or if you know what I'm talking about).
