Hello ^^ I was directed here by twinsis thisissong after ranting her ear off... I burned through the entire anime for Amnesia in the last 20 hours and she suggested I come read your posts. ^^; Thank you for posting your thoughts, because the ending left me kinda o_o? I wasn't really expecting closure (or even an actual ending with a particular person) as it's based on a game, but I still felt puzzled about things that felt glossed over. I was glad to read that even people who played the game felt that way too.
Knowing a little bit about the game beforehand, I was hoping deep down that they would give more time to Ukyo but was prepared for that not to happen. I guess I'm happy with what I did get (I guess?) and if I really needed/wanted more I could buy the games... Something to consider, I suppose! Again, thank you for your posts, and I really enjoyed your commentary on the series! ^^
Why, hello! thank you! Lovely to meet another Amnesia fan! I'm glad you liked my, somewhat rambling, reviews. I'm sorta of mind that they tried so hard to give everyone fanservice they forgot about the plot(s). (Though I suppose the fact that they were trying to cram 5 x 31 days of plot into 12 eps didn't help any either.) Which is sad since Ukyo really was the shoe-in for if they had decided to give us a proper end.
But, the story itself is really interesting if you decide you want to try playing the game. The anime didn't hardly hold a candle to it. Plus, there's a good amount of replay value since you start noticing more details after you've gone through all of the routes once. (Some of the dramas are actually really fun as well if you're into that sorta thing. Amnesia of the Dead and Meido no Kuni no Amnesia are full of parody awesomeness XDD) And the Japanese fanart scene is just awesome!
Thank you for the recommendations, I'll try to check those out! ^^ I am curious, compared to the main 4, is Ukyo's screen time in-game comparable, or is he relegated to more of a side character role? I had the impression before that he was more of a side character, but the anime and the way you've described the game make it seem like he's on par with the other 4 as far as being a main character. ...I wouldn't mind buying a game primarily due to a side character (Miyata's voice owns a sizable part of my soul) if I really liked one of the main, but Toma was the one I had the most interest in - and as much as I do like Hino-kun, I've decided his yandere-turned-creepy-psycho roles are not my cup of tea. I like the other 3 main characters well enough, but they aren't enough of a draw for me to buy the game.
:( However I'm quite disappointed with Ukyou's route. He should be the canon pairing, why not put some happy moments like what she did with others? ;\ *Ukyou's fangirl*
Although Kent had 1 episode, but it's so interesting & cute since he's too awkward. It's sad Ukyou didn't get anything while he struggled to save the heroine.
D: And I'm quite saddened that Neil didn't show up T_T Everything was rushed, not much of a good explanation compared to the game. :\ Oh well, I'll just treat this as Idea Factory's way of promoting the game. "Play the game, know the ending" xD
Oh, I didn't even think of that until you pointed it out. Yeah! They completely skimped any cuteness with Ukyo?! Why is that?! (Drat... sorta doubly disappointed now.)
...It does also sorta seem that the anime timed itself just a little too perfectly for Crowd's release. (AU bits and all.) Ahh well... at the very least we should hopefully get some more fangirls outta all this... Viva la fandom!
D: Glad you felt the same way as I do now~ Yep, the expression I was wearing while watching the last episode was like... "Omg, even Orion had a longer air-time compared to Ukyou...." *scoffs*
Yep, that's their tactic :\ Although I can't wait playing Amnesia Crowd, I guess this's the most devastating ending for otome-anime. I mean, if it's Hakuouki, they released Sekkaroku series to make Chizuru pair up with all diff guys. T_T Never mind, let me just sit in a corner, drawing circles on the floor, D:
