I wish less time had been spent on Toma so that we could get a more satisfying explanation with Ukyo. The heroine and him didn't really get to spend any quality time together, so it's hard to even understand why she feels the need to hang around the lunatic. The only reason I feel any sympathy for Ukyo is because I read a review on his game route. He deserves more love than this (became Ukyo biased). The anime really dumbed the whole scenario down (not really surprised). Then I saw the last episode and got pissed off. Sometimes I wish the animation companies would just grow a pair and choose a pairing. The way the anime was set up, it would have been the most natural to end it with Ukyo/heroine I think. Instead, now no one is happy. They have effectively upset the entire fanbase instead of a small portion.

Yeah, Toma took up too long. They could have least given some more time to Kent if they weren't going to give it to Ukyo. (Still miffed at how little screentime Kent got.)

I agree that they totally dumbed things down. Bigtime on Ukyo and on the others. The anime made it really hard to connect with any of the characters properly since, other than Toma, it basically cut off before you hit the 'Aha, so this is why she loves him.' moment that the game had. Which made things look doubly bad on Ukyo since his character is so complicated. (The whole game revolves just as much around him and the consequences of his actions as it does around the Heroine!)

On the other hand... I actually really liked what they did with the ending. Ending at the beginning seemed like a fairly awesome way to go for me. Since they jilted us out of making Ukyo the canon one.

(...Though it seems like they at least ought to do what the HaruToki anime did and throw us a bone with anime route end scenes for all the guys.)

I'm coming in here having not actually watched the series, so I can't comment on that. I will say that the different character endings for Haruka only came out when the DVDs were released (this was the case for both Haruka1's Hachiyousho and Haruka3's Owarinaki Unmei OVA). I know Kin'iro no Corda did the same thing on its last disc. I can't speak for any other otome-game-turned-anime, but you can at least hope there will be specific character endings that way - it's just kinda crummy that DVDs in Japan cost so much more than DVDs here. ^^;

Ooh, that's good to know. Have to keep an eye out on the DVD releases then.

And, there is some of a history of extra animated bits on Otomate's side. Hakuouki got OVAs for each character. ( ...Though, I think those were special releases and not just DVD extras.) Maybe we'll get lucky!
