Author's Notes: Post ep.11 but not yet 12. Somewhere vaguely in between-ish. ...To be possibly followed up with a second bit? My muse is twitchy.

It was... a letter. Addressed to her. Offered up casually in an open palm. From him of all people.

Ririchiyo narrowed her eyes. “Is this this some kind of joke?”

“No, not at all.” Kagerou drawled, tipping his head up in his usual arrogant manner that grated on Ririchiyo's nerves like nothing else. “I assure you I'm being entirely serious this time, iinazuke-dono.”

“That.” She said, glaring harder. Arms crossed curtly over her chest. “Is exactly what I'm talking about you-”

“You refuse then?” With an over-dramatic flourish, he took the letter in question up casually between his fingers. Patting it softly against pursed lips as he stared down at her quizzically before chuckling. A slow grin spread on his face. “How sadistic of you. I approve!”

“I wasn't looking for your approval.” She retorted sharply.

“Good!” His grin seemed to stretch even further as Ririchiyo realized she'd just backed herself into a verbal corner. “Then, you accept!”

“I- That doesn't mean-” She backpedaled, stuttering. “I wasn't accepting it either!”

Too little, too late, the envelope smacked lightly against her arms as he tucked it among the ruffles of her sleeve with a deft jab, forcing the girl to scramble to catch it. Ririchiyo gave an exasperated huff, gripping the letter so tight it began to crinkle. And tried again.

“I said-”

“Of course, I'm not expecting a response.”

She stopped.

“Or that you even read it.” Kagerou added. “By all means, dispose of it as you see fit.”

The man laughed again. Seemingly softer this time than the usual full-bodied, raucous cackling Ririchiyo was familiar with. But just as arrogant as he turned with whirl of black silks and gold embroidery.

“I was merely...” He paused, expression unreadable behind the mask, before giving the girl the barest of smirks. “Practicing my handwriting.”

Then, Ririchiyo blinked.

And the moment had passed.

The smug grin back in place as he loomed arrogantly over her.

“Huh, I see. Good luck with that.” Drawing herself up with a derisive snort, the small girl tilted her head up with superior look. Arms locked across her chest once more, though she didn't release the letter in her hand. “I doubt I'd be able to read it even if I tried then. Knowing your handwriting, it's probably illegible.”

“Probably.”

Still.

“...But, perhaps.” Her voice dipped to a whisper. “I'm not entirely against practicing my handwriting some more...”

He watched her silently for a moment before starting to open his mouth.

“Maybe.” She specified quickly, louder. “If I have time, that is.”

There was another low chuckle as he turned to leave. Cape drawn in a sweeping, mocking, bow around him.

“I'll look forward to your reply then, iinazuke-dono.”
