Oscar Fun Time

Jan 31, 2006 09:36

I'm slightly less enthusiastic about the Oscars each subsequent year, but this year is different. The injection of the queer into the proceedings, perhaps by the Gay Mafia, as postulated by rollerboogieboy makes this year one to watch. Which means that I somehow have to take in several films that I actually want to see, have not seen, and now have been ( Read more... )

Yeah, I never cared about the Oscars until this year. Somehow it feels like my personal future and the future of my people is at stake.

Alito can eat the corn out of my shit.

I think that Alito and the neocons are secretly the Reptilians I just read about yesterday, so I imagine that eating feces is not foreign to them.

I think it was a big deal that Halle Berry won, but I think it's just as big of a deal that queer characters make up so many of the actor nominations. Personally, at least.

i agree with both of these comments.

this movie is really a watershed moment for our people -- and although i use the phrase our people all the time, it's actually resonating deeply with me at the moment.

in other news though, i'm actually thrilled that alito was confirmed -- finally we're sending a message to women everywhere that yes indeed, they're basically nothing but breeding stock in the service of a christian supreme being.

I still contend that CRASH was the best film of the year. It absolutely gutted me and the performances were downright blistering. A film hasn't affected me the way that film did in a very very long time.

I've heard that from others, but I've also heard from people that really thought it was trite or something, so that split may hamper it. Might not, though. I would like to see it I guess. Someone in my play is in SAG, and has been getting screeners. I think he got CRASH, maybe I'll ask to borrow it.

Who's in SAG? Jeffrey?

I thought Crash was pretty powerful. That and BBM are my favorites from what I've seen. Capote is good, but more about the performance. The movie itself has some holes.

Yeah, Jeffrey. I hope my eyes weren't sparkling too much the instant he mentioned being in SAG. And why do I find that so glamorous? I'm such an amateur.

I feel about Walk the Line the way you feel about Capote. Good, but what makes it so good are the performances.

OMG! That bunny story is unbelievable! Thank god that guy rescued the poor darling. People are such assholes.

I know! So sick. The bunny is very calm and trusting, strangely.

As much as I'm glad about all the queer-friendly movies, I can't help but be sad about the total lack of Breakfast on Pluto at the Oscars and the SAG awards.

Did it come out soon enough? I still need to see it. I imagine it just got eged out by higher-profile queer cinema, which is too bad.

It opened at the Toronto Film Fest in September and then had a slightly wider release November 18th.

Stupid Oscars.
