Pietros had never known a day's freedom.

Born a slave, of parents who were slaves, he had never any flights of fancy as to being the master of his own actions - of making his own decisions, or of deciding his own fate. Those thoughts were dangerous for one such as himself. No, it was far safer to keep one's head down, to serve as commanded, and do all that could be done to avoid undue attention. Pietros did his best to follow the rules, to never question an order from his Dominus, but there were times, few though they were, when an order struck a fear so deep in his heart that not even knowing the punishment for disobedience was enough to hasten his steps.

He was to leave the relative safety of the villa and begin serving in the ludus.

That was really lovely, I enjoyed reading it a lot! It's always sad, though, knowing the way things end for them =(

I really need to write a story where they're reunited in the afterlife. I think that would make things somewhat better for me. This show has warped my mind - I'm at the point where I just hope the couples go together so no one is left behind.

I know what you mean! The best we can hope for is that they die together and get reunited in the afterlife.... damn this show!

(Also, I support the idea of you writing a story with Barca and Pietros together in the afterlife and having the misunderstandings cleared up.)
