[so i fail at kink. this is terribly angsty, but i hope you like it.]

"The Ghost of Her"

Spartacus thrusts with eyes closed as Mira digs her fingernails into his buttocks. She gasps for breath and rises her hips to meet his, but her mind is troubled. How could they be so close and yet feel far away from one another? He is inside of her and yet, with his eyes closed, she feels shut out from him. It is a mistake, she thinks, to have come to his bed , both of them drunk from too much wine. But she desires him in spite of it all. She knows he is a lost cause for her. He is damaged beyond repair and while he makes a wonderful leader, he is an absent-minded lover. She whispers his name in hopes of calling him back to her, but he merely increases the pace of his thrusts.

"Spartacus." she says, "Look at me. Please."

He comes without a glance in her direction and Mira thinks it a small kindness that he doesn't whisper the name Sura as he does so. Spartacus had never been hers and never would be hers. For as long as the ghost of
