I was a little surprised at how brusque Spock was, how quick he was to go straight for a mind-meld, but I guess the situation warranted it...

And now Jim's gonna have a heck of a time dealing with Bones. Oh, man, the train wreck! XD

Well, I think in the Vulcan culture they see children differently, so to Spock Jim is simply the captain minus muscle mass and memories, so he thought nothing of handling it this way. May have him verbalize that later on, but for now it's told from Jim's POV so it's meant to see brusque.
