i'm no good at top fives. helterskelter_ January 18 2004, 20:47:34 UTC
since october, my top 5 picks would go something like this

1) okkervil river - down the river of golden dreams
2) elliott smith - either/or
3) cat power - moon pix (even though it was stolen !!)
4) the postal service
5) dizzy gillespie / joy division (because i always listen to a lot of both, they highlight my past year in general -- however completely unrelated)

what are yours?

i like doing this type of thing with specific songs.... this is why i make mix tapes. i should make you one, dearie. COME SEE ME AT WORK PLZ.

i don't understand why people read this type of thing and DON'T respond. boooo

1) haven't heard okkervil river -- must check out.
2) "say yes" says it all
3) i am an idiot and need to listen to cat power. you are free has been sitting on my hard drive for a couple months, and i've never gotten around to listening to it.
4) oh the postal service....i do love them. i think it's the most likable music in the world. and i got quite a bit of people into them too.
5) random, but both excellent.

I am also an idiot because I haven't visited you yet. I'm really sorry, but it's such a pain to go back there...maybe if a good movie comes I'll drop by. I think that paycheck is for about $10 anyway. But we really do need to hang out...2 of my favorite bands are coming soon, both 18 and up though...grrr. I'll do my top choices when I start listening to everything I have.

1. Crosby, Stills and Nash - Self-titled. 1969 was such a good year.
2. The Decemberists - 5 Songs EP (2001)
3. Simon and Garfunkel - Bridge Over Troubled Water (1970 was awesome too)
4. Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea (1998)
5. Beastie Boys - License to Ill (1986.. their one release under Def Jam was their best. Everything post-Paul's-Boutique under Grand Royal was shit).
6. Her Space Holiday - The Young Machines (Pitchforks says: "This album deserves a 9.9, but Bianchi is too angry. So it gets a 6.9." <--- paraphrase. What a bunch of conceited, fucking assholes... I hope I'm one of them someday.
7. Rolling Stones - Their Satanic Majesties Request.
8. Cat Power - You are Free. (gooo Decatur!!)
9. Neutral Milk Hotel - Invent Yourself a Shortcake. 10 points for a cool album name. And he was 16 when he made it. And most of it is really cool. Some of it at least.
10. Temptations - The christmas Card (1970 again (I told you it rocked (didn't I?))).

You're the conceited music fuck...and nice use of parentheses, your English teacher/girlfriend would be proud. You Forgot It In People is fucking amazing and ten million times better than Feel Good Lost.

hi! #2,3,4 are definitely at the top of my list right now. I love love love The Shins. Lost in Translation is an incredible soundtrack, too...have you heard the bonus track where Bill Murray sings "More Than This"?

Hello! Yes I've heard the "More Than This" hidden song. Seriously, the Shins just sound better and better the more I listen to them. Too often, I listen to a band and then get sick of them. I shouldn't jinx it :)

I know exactly what you mean! The first month I got Chutes Too Narrow it never left my CD player. It's such a good album...I could listen to "Saint Simon" for hours.

i accidentally clicked on your journal instead of "indielanta" to see what other recent posts had been made on the indielanta community.

anyway, recently, i've been listening a lot to:

1. the microphones - the glow, pt. 2
2. joanna newsom - the milk-eyed mender
3. nick drake - pink moon
4. little wings - light green leaves
5. songs: ohia - didn't it rain
6. m. ward - transfiguration of vincent
7. iron and wine - the creek drank the cradle
8. animal collective - sung tongs
9. the unicorns - who will cut our hair when we're gone?
10. neutral milk hotel - in the aeroplane over the sea
11. xiu xiu - fabulous muscles
12. devendra banhart - rejoicing in the hands
13. cursive - domestica

those are not my 13 favorite cds, but they're probably the 13 i've been listening to the most recently, roughly in order of frequency.
