You get used to it after a while. This was actually far easier to understand than if she'd only used one English word in there, but we hear people saying (trying to say, more accurately) "landlord" and "complaint" all the time.

It was an exceedingly odd day-we had a gang trial-and this was just the cap on it.

that's strange. like, i would consider that non-standard English, obviously, don't most people know how to code switch? i mean, speak in one language or the other! :-P

i can understand why that happens though i suppose!

Completely unrelated to your entry, I'm afraid, but I saw your profile and I had to post because it's too weird -

I live in Highland Park
I got my B.A. at W&M and just finished my M.A. at Rutgers (English for both)
My college roommate's birthday is 7-20 (1977)

I just did a search for people in HP on lj, if you're wondering. Hm, I wonder if you're the one I've seen on my street with the W&M decal...

'Fraid not. I don't have a decal. But yeah, that's too weird. There are several other people in the department I was in at Rutgers who had done BAs at W&M-it's a popular place for NJ kids to go for undergrad, I guess.
