Pink champagne, silver cinchers and corset dresses.

This week has been one where I'm drawn to all things shiny. To be honest, most weeks are like that, but this more than some! I have an experimental corset-body to share, have been working on a super-narrow regular wear cincher for myself, and have of course been progressing with Breezer's corset dress.

Both the cincher and the dress are in grey spot broche. Breezer's dress is to be trimmed with silver-grey ethically-sourced rabbit fur, whilst my little cincher has a blue/gold lace applique. The lace is a piece that I found on ebay, and whilst it's more glittery than I would like(!), the colours go beautifully with the broche. And the glitter particles will drop off with wear anyway. Sure, sparkly lace maybe isn't the most appropriate addition to a regular wear corset, but I don't care! I love a bit of sparkle.

Anyway, onto the Pink Champagne! A twinkling corset-body. An experimental design that we shot last February...

When working with a tightlacing burlesque performer for a corset photoshoot, one should exploit that opportunity. So when considering designs for Chrys Columbine, I imagined all sorts of ways of making something that was delicate, sparkling, effervescent... something excessively, almost jokingly, feminine. I also wanted to explore working with sheers and leathers, try building a tightlacing corset without a waist tape (didn't work quite so brilliantly), and map out a new pattern.

The result was this pale pink corset body.

Pearlescent leather, two sheer fabrics layered upon one another, a tightlacing waist, and three-part hip gussets that wrapped right around the normal side seam placement. This patterning was draped out on my hanging mannequin (oh, how I love my mannequins), but most of the details could be swiftly explored using my usual re-patterning technique. 1000 clear Swarovski crystals accentuate the erogenous zones in a way that I think is delightfully silly but also elegant.

Technically, this corset body was a huge challenge. I learned an awful lot for the future, whilst also playing around with some aesthetics that I adore. We had only one distance fitting for this piece and (if I remember correctly) a grand total of 3 measurements to work from! These challenges can often be the most exciting, but I am really looking forward to being based in a bustling city (when we move to Birmingham this autumn) so that in-person fittings are more of a possibility.
