It’s happened again. Well it’s never stopped happening. Tumblr, where common sense goes to die and fail goes to breed and thrive, had a rather reasonable post on what counts as allydom and what counts as the actions of a decent human being. And of course, we had a string of allies saying how “meaaaan” they were and they’re alienating people etc etc ( Read more... )

Yes yes and yes.

Play nice just replaces one prejudice narrative with another - we're still the non-human, the lesser, who needs to earn more

I would be surprised if any Equality movement could achieve it's ends without support from the privileged majority ( ... )

Agreed, the law is not the end and it's not even the civil rights laws that have the most power long term

There is a limit to playing 'nice' when it comes to people showing their hatred and bigotry. It only works so long, before you know that they're not really respecting you at all, and it's when, I think, the gloves should come off.
