So I just got back from seeing The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. This, therefore, by a process of deduction known as "Katie is a massive nerd", would be the flaily spoilery post.
The Elves aren't people you could have a laugh with in bed, that's for sure!
I thought the bits of LOTR where Gimli was taken seriously were so much better than the lol-dwarf stuff and they could have done some awesome stuff with him, and just didn't. Such a shame.
Radagast DID seem like he escaped from Narnia, haha. And I really liked that even though he was clearly weird, you were supposed to be on his side. <3
I loved that detail, it totally made Radagast make sense (Hedgehogs are to Radagast as Hobbits are to Gandalf?) and OH THE BLUE WIZARDS I actually LOL'd but not enough other people did.
It's going to take a few more viewings before I'm clear on who all the dwarves are but I loved Balin and that whole speech about why Thorin hates Orcs and how it brought the company together and I loved that Fili & Kili act younger not just look younger.
OH and the riddles! That scene was ridiculously perfect.
I fear I'm still only ambivalent about Martin Freeman but even that's a HUGE improvement on previous feelings so yay?
Also I want lots more Galadriel though i don't really know how or where becase she is the actual best <3 and the way she just spoke straight to Gandalf and let Saruman waffle on was hilarious.
I laughed out loud in the cinema at the Blue Wizards too. Hee. And yes Fili and Kili!
Martin Freeman is always kinda going to be Martin Freeman, but I thought that worked for Bilbo more than I expected it too. And just... HE LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE IAN HOLM AND THAT IS SO WEIRD.
I believe we are getting a LOT more Galadriel and Elrond the Sassy, which should be ace. (Elrond SMILED. LIKE MORE THAN ONCE.)
did you see the normal or the silly hd version ? because the Internets keeps telling me the hd version looks awful as the special effects arent detailed enough for it and look silly.
It was filmed with a higher frame rate than any other movie, is that what you mean? Cause that's the same for all showings. I saw the 3D one (which was better than most 3D I think but not necessary) and it looked great.
I finally saw it on Sunday and got around to reading this just now and YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! Totally with you on all points :) I love how indulgent it is, and the songs and the not-seen Smaug and the eye and the scenery and the rock giants and the storm and everything! It totally satisfied my all-consuming need to see dragons beating the crap out of cities.
Yeah, I have nothing constructive to add, just squee. If I have the time, I think I'll be seeing this again :D
[Also, what was it with Kili and Thorin. I mean woah. It's like for Thorin their main obkective was sexy viking. And Kili was soooooo pretty.
But anyway, all the squee for Balin! I'm so glad he was as awesome and cool as I was hoping.]
