One of the weird side-effects of having a MASSIVE scandal sweeping your country - normally, if you hit BBC News24 then there's not much to see, but today? GRIPPING. Like, genuinely gripping. OMG. If you are not keeping up with this then here is the bit that was making everyone OMG today. I seriously think we'll be dealing with the fallout from this ( Read more... )

It's stunning, a lot of the time, it really is! (Some of the shots of Colossus alone!)

I'm absolutely staggered by the scale of the News of the World hacking-- I mean, these past few years, there must have been people working for them who were just waiting for this to come to light, it's a hell of a sword of damocles to have hanging over an organisation. It's tipped something in the police/press/politics balance, too, and I can't wait to see how this all pans out. It's fascinating, absolutely fascinating.

Absolutely. I was fascinated by the stuff about wanting to change the procedures so that testimony to a select committee is under oath and therefore lying to one would be perjury. It really looks like some very fundamental things are going to shift under the effects of this.

I watched Carnivale all the way through a few years ago, and I really love it. I have to say that from what I hear Jonesy wasn't supposed to be dead though - shot, but not dead. I definitely read somewhere that basically everyone (or every main character, I think) who was hurt in the last episode would have been alive by the next season, which would have been set 5 years later.

Also, I totally love Jonesy. And Rita Sue. And Ben :)

This is exactly what I was going to say - the creator has been surprisingly forthcoming about his plans for future seasons, and yes, Jonesy is supposed to have pulled through.

(BTW, if you ever have, like, a week to kill, check out the Carnivale pages at Wikipedia. They go into RIDICULOUS detail about the backstory and mythology!)

Also, Carnivale has the best opening sequence of any TV show ever.

It's rather interesting considering the NotW debacle from a historical perspective, too, if you consider the poacher-turned-gamekeeper (turned poacher?) relationship between Fleet Street reporters and Downing Street officials, all the way back to Harold Wilson's day. I need to pin down my circling thoughts and actually write a post on all this.

Holy crap. How does that NotW story KEEP GETTING BIGGER? Just - omg.

I keep vaguely meaning to watch Carnivale, and I've never gotten around to it. I like creepy as fuck fantasy mysteries! I like Tim DeKay! Maybe now is the time?
