I am finally caught up with Merlin, and I'm so with you in finding myself surprised by how much I'm growing to like not only Arthur, but Uther as well. Also, Tony Head is so fucking great in the role, I even manage to forget it's him half the time now and am just all "oh, Uther!" Glad they didn't kill him off, I was worried they might (I'm sort of assuming he's toast regardless at the end of the season.)
that even Uther apparently now ships Merlin/ArthurI know! Hee. Uther is all, "at least my son's boyfriend will see he cleans his room when I'm gone

I know! Uther is so messed up but he loves his son! And he's all well-meaning but wrong! I think he's great. And I dunno about dead at the end of the season - it's definitely possible, but they are already set for a second season from what I heard and it is Tony Head who can be relied upon to draw a whole load of viewers just by himself. I think I'd rather that Arthur finds out at the end of the season and then the second season is him dealing with the knowledge and him and Merlin hiding it from Uther while fighting crime, with the chance for an Uther-death finale somewhere in the future. But hmm: that does require Tony Head to actually want to stay where he is, I guess, and while Richard Wilson might retire sometime soon from full-time telly, Tony Head's young enough that he might just want to go off and do something else.

Ooooh, I like your setup idea for the 2nd season. It'll be interesting to see what happens if it does well in the States (it's supposed to be broadcast here on regular network TV in the spring), whether that adds any pressure to them to not resolve plotlines as quickly as they usually do in BritTV.
I'm totally going anyway just cause it looks so pretty (and from what I've heard the marketting people for movies are often miiiles away from the actual movie itself) but yeah, not exactly hopeful, is it? Oy!
I can totally understand that as a reason for wanting to see it :) I hope it really is shiny (and entertaining for that matter). I think I'll steer clear though, unless I get the chance to see it on DVD for free at some point.
I too am eagerly awaiting the F series of QI. Those repeats are getting overfamiliar, though they missed out the B series for some reason. I suppose Stephen's been busy jaunting round America and saving bears, though.
I love the thing they have where even when Merlin is supposed to be being a good servant and standing to the side, actually he and Arthur just keep swapping looks and communicating in a really, really married way the whole time. :D
