Do you think he was planning on polygamy a la Ottomans, or bumping off Mrs N. the first? And do you think the sheer insult to Irene is one of the reasons Gen wants so bitterly to strangle him?

I'm guessing he was thinking a wife in this country and wife in that country and maybe another wife in that other country... Or possibly a divorce. The dancing girls are concubines, right? And here we were calling Costis a polygamist XD
The thought of Nahuseresh with a harem really creeps me out...
Thank you! Nahuseresh and the harem :( has finally reminded me what this book has been reminding me of! It's the Ottomans in GK Chesterton's The Flying Inn! Thanks, Lady Jane!

The thought of Nahuseresh with a harem really creeps me out... Yesss, same!! I just... I got a really sick feeling when it was first mentioned he had a wife, and I got an even sicker feeling when the whole Marin backstory was revealed.

To make it even sicker...did anyone else get squicked out when Nahuseresh tended to Kamet's injuries and put him to bed? It just seemed like it had some ugly undertones, when Kamet said, "When he was done with me..."

Oh checkers!! Oh no... oh fric frac holy mac. I was so ill with this scene, though I wasn't sure why. Now that you've brought that up.... I'm so devastated to even contemplate it. It's possible I had such a visceral reaction to this scene, even if that possibility went over my head simply because I'm notorious for missing out on details.
I... you know, I wouldn't put it past Nahusersh. At this point, I just think he's the lowest of scums.
And that's why it really breaks my heart to see the way Kamet talked about that scene, as if Nahuseresh was actually being *nice*, as if he actually did Marin a favour, and as if he actually *cared* about Kamet. And ugghhh....

That's exactly what abusers do. And then the victim thinks it's their own fault. But it wouldn't surprise me at all if that was just another way of controlling Kamet and keeping him submissive.

That part made me soooo uncomfortable! I was thinking the same thing. Is he sexually abusing Kamet as well as physically abusing him? Megan's style leads me to believe she wouldn't state that definitely but heavily imply it like the dancing girls. If you are a child reading this, you'll maybe think that they are just "dancing" but as an adult, one can tell they are clearly concubines.
Which makes me wonder about Marin...? Who was he actually jealous of? Marin or Kamet? And did he go to see Marin for Kamet's sake not his own, because he felt gulily? I know Kamet was more useful to him, but he sold Marin and not Kamet. Mostly, it sounded like he was just mad his property was having feelings of their own.
Either way, I hate Nahuserquish more than ever now!
PS: I'm typing on my Ipad and when I start to type Nahuseresh it suggests Nahuserquish or Nahuserfish before it suggests his actual name!

Where are those amazingly eloquent Tumblr gifs when you need them? I need one that expresses a sick, horrified, sad, angry feeling.

Well, I don't know about Gen, but that's definitely true for me XD

And remember when he was gonna joke about Gen being ruled by Irene and then remembered, oh wait... I'm afraid of her too. DAHAHA!
