I can't believe there hasn't been discussion about this chapter yet. This was the most chilling chapter (apart from 12/13) to me. Can anyone else say what they thought about Kamet's backstory with Marin? Like, I cannot... I can't even... I have lost the ability to even with Nahuseresh. Like.... I just can't *cries in a corner*. (I'm waiting until someone else admits to having the same feeling as I do about this scene, so I can let them explain it, lol. I still can't put into words what I found so disturbing.)

In lighter tones, I'm also so stoked that it's finally revealed that Costis Ormentiedes is 150% bishounen. I am outraged that his heartthrob status wasn't as delineated in KoA as it should have been, Mr. Pretty-face-who-can-sing.

Nahuseresh ... I went into TaT wondering what insight we would get into his character, then, when he "died," it was "welp, there goes that..." But we do learn more about him, and it's all really horrible. Yeah, maybe he'll have a confrontation with Gen in the last book, but maybe Kamet should take him out instead. Or, seriously, just never ever ever encounter him again.

One of the things that stood out to me in the Marin story was that Kamet seriously considered running away with her. Wow. How long ago was this? Did this experience shut down his ability to imagine himself getting out, was it just time passing, or did something else worsen or change?

Aah, thank you for responding!! I too was curious about what more we could learn about Nahuseresh, and like you, I didn't like anything that was presented to me. And I especially didn't like how it was presented in Kamet's POV, as if he was trying so hard to make his master seem *not that bad*. Not because I didn't like the stylistic choice, but because of the disturbing implications of how... inured Kamet is.

How long ago was this? Did this experience shut down his ability to imagine himself getting out, was it just time passing, or did something else worsen or change? Wow, good question, that's a really interesting idea.

It took me FOREVER to find the icon! I had it stored on an ancient CD in a box in a closet.

*stares at icon adoringly*

I was thinking of this icon when I read that one scene where Costis takes his shirt off (for some reason?) and puts his breastplate on over his and I quote "bare chest."

ATTOLIAN MANFLESH ALERT!

We're such reprobates... XD

What's a CD?

Hey, at least it wasn't a floppy disc.

What a dedicated mod.

I was thinking of that icon the ENTIRE BOOK! One of my first impressions of Sounis ~8 years ago was honestly "These people are much more into Costis than I expected. And not just the ones who claim they're married to him. Everyone."

Maybe, it should've been Costis the Awesomely Beautiful?
