Tezuka remembers the days - fondly remembers, longs for, pines for, yearns - when he could have given Kikumaru fifty laps for this informality. On the bad days he comes home and Kikumaru will hug him, arms warm and awkward across his shoulders. On worse days he'll elbow him slyly in the gut and make lewd jokes about Tezuka's sex life. To be fourteen again. The power. <--- this is possibly the best illustration of Tezuka's dry humor that I've ever read. His ability to look at himself and mock himself as well as the people around him all at once - you just lay it out like it's nothing, like it's just Tezuka, because it is. That and the "he wishes he were the type of person who." Gah. There's a wistfulness underlying his particular type of humor. That's what makes it so wry and dry and subtle and effective. :x

I wanted so badly to rec anna's image fic but i think she's deleted it. :( I saved it to my hard drive in case of such a happenstance but it still makes me sad. :( That fic was so lovely.
