sixth soul | video

[The video cuts on to a very irate looking Johannes, messily cutting the pituitary gland out of the brain of a human corpse. There are six or seven overturned vials in the background. One of them is smoking, and he fixes the PCD with a sour look as he looms over the body.]

Necromancy here works on animals.

[As if on cue, a half-rotted dog walks ( Read more... )

[His eyes cut up briefly, containing only the barest hint of curiosity.]

My reputation precedes me. [You must know Horst.]

I've met you before.

[A cloying little smirk.]

But it's a pleasure to do so again. [He inclines his head.] Yuca Collabell.

A pleasure? Clearly we didn't talk much the last time I was here.

[Aaaand extracting some bile.]

Surprised? Not really. Disappointed? Yes.

[That is just... disgusting. Working on the dead equals Dark magic in her mind, so she's making a mental note not to get within ten feet of this man without having her wand handy.] Necromancy is not a field meant for humans to dabble in.

[Johannes is unfazed.]

What is meant to, then? Not a lot of other creatures have the opposable thumbs necessary for a halfway decent brain extraction.

Brain extraction is not a necessary means of attaining knowledge, not unless the cadaver was donated to medicine by the deceased or by living kin.

We all have different reasons for doing what we do, fraulein. Don't assume that the rules in your world necessarily apply to the ones in mine.

[It's a bland, rehearsed speech.]

You're a creepy asshole, but I like you.

[Jo offers a grin, but it doesn't quite reach her eyes. Necromancy, in her world, is strictly not okay. Zombified people are violent, confused, and completely unnatural. People who bring them back usually aren't so menancing -- most of them are stupid people who can't let the fuck go.

But Jo suspends judgment, for now, because the hunter in her is curious. That and judging from the other conversations, Johannes hasn't actually done anything wrong.]

I'm Jo. What're you gonna do with that dog?

[Necromancers aren't exactly common in his world, but Johannes has goals for the art that are strictly his own.

He doesn't expect anyone to care about them, and he's unwilling to share, anyway. He does, however, afford her a bland look.]

Track its decomposition, day by day. It'd holding up longer than I expected it would.

-=Here's a vaguely horrified expression.=-

Why do you not wish the dead to rest peacefully?

I hardly imagine I'm disturbing his sleep.

-=Looks at the dog, then back to the man=-

A soul makes the body move. To give something dead life is to pull a soul away and force it to live in it.
