Despite his usual tactics of evasion from most topics, or rather, his lack of intelligence to carry them to an extent further than dating sims and “I are gorilla,” he can tell an important topic was quickly arriving and would soon make its way to his estate in the floorboards of Otae-san’s home. Ah, Otae-san’s home. A place he could only wish he were; after all, being so far apart from his stalk-ee ruining the perfect balance and perhaps even the root and classification of being the series-proclaimed canon stalker.

But, pressing back and folding over the possible dread and ridiculously potential topics (… of alien mothers, their spawns and possibly the birth of a new sadist king…) he grabs his own bokken, gripping and releasing, gripping it and releasing it - you know the pattern.

Settling his hand on it carefully and with a vague finality, he turns around, only proffering a nod to his first division captain.

The second he saw Kondo even start to nod, Sougo was on him -- using speed to his favor to bring a diagonal slash down. It was a move that was easy enough to block, but what he hoped for here was the advantage...catching Kondo off guard and keeping that advantage throughout the spar. There was no way he could win against his commander's raw strength, but Sougo's talent was never strength alone.

"Would you abandon the Shinsengumi if the gorilla woman asked you to?" The question was probably more pointed than his attack. This man had done some questionable things in the name of 'love' and in any crack episode, the answer would probably be yes.

But this was a serious moment.

Kondo takes a single step back, bringing up his training weapon and offering a solid block. Unsurprisingly, he was taken slightly off-guard, but being highly experienced in sparring (from youth until now) - the blurs and constant movement of wood against wood came second nature. Already preparing himself for the next set of straightly laced attacks, he gets into stance and proceeds to block before slicing forward in an attempt to rush. However, though, it has the power, it seems lacking somehow as he’s caught up in a flurry of shock and bewilderment ( ... )

The words were a comfort to him. And it reassured what he figured from the start -- as much of an idiot as Kondo may have been, he would never abandon them. Sougo braced himself for Kondo's attack, skidding back a step but managing to hold his ground. He kept their weapons locked tightly together so that he could look the man in the eye ( ... )
