He wasn't entirely convinced it was safe to leave his apartment yet, but food supplies were low and he was fairly certain he would soon enough go mad simply from being cooped up. With that, it was wonderful to see a friendly face there in the mall rather than God-knows-what jumping out to attack him. (Hopefully he didn't seem too eager when he rushed to greet her.)

"Jeanne, what a pleasant surprise."

"Well then, you can tell me when to turn my back, and I'll do the same. It wouldn't do to spy on a lady." The moment the words left his lips, he began to regret it, deeply wishing that Jeanne had forgotten the other, rather awkward, time he spied on her, so to speak.

"Thank you. I will be sure to make good use of my time." Among the many embarrassing things that had happened to her since arriving, that particular incident was burned into her memory. She didn't hold him responsible for it, of course, but it was difficult to forget all the same.
