Pissed off as he is about her vanishing and then apparently turning up on her own the day after he starts a city-wide search effort, Karkat's glad to know Kanaya's still alive. She's one of his closer friends; he would have been gutted if anything had happened to her. Still, there's far too much up in the air here, and he's come to check on her get answers. He wants to know where she disappeared to, for one. Or the full story behind this Kurt thing. And what, if anything, she expects to do for Vriska if this is her idea of moirallegiance. So many questions, so much drama.

So typical of his team.

Once inside the glass doors of the clinic he stops to cough into his hand. The scratch that's been developing at the back of his throat has gotten worse, aggravated by running all the way here. Shit. He makes a mental note to stock up on supplies on the way back, then heads into Kanaya's room and shuts the door behind him. He'll block it if he has to.

For the time being, this is nobody else's business.

She laughs when he first comes in. Oh, Karkat, that was fast. She's sitting with her knees pulled up, the communicator on the bed in front of her.

"Hello, Karkat."

She looks better than he'd been expecting, which is a relief, but he's still angry. Nobody is surprised by this development.

"Where the blue fucking hell have you been?"

His voice is a bit rougher than usual, but otherwise he seems fine. He crosses the room to her bedside, still looking pretty peeved and waiting for an answer.

She isn't put off or intimidated by his attitude at all. It's what's she's come to expect from him, and she would have been more concerned to see him acting worried.

"I was in the desert for two days, outside the city. Then I came back, and now I'm here."

[Winry wasn't really sure what to make of this whole fiasco. She didn't really know Kurt all that well, so she had had no personal involvment, and she knew nothing of what details of this case but in the end it didn't really matter. it had brought her patients, and her job was to tend to them.

The trolls were an interesting lot, more so because they had all come en masse and there was the whole zodiac thing.

She entered the large room, rolling in a small cart with a tray of food. They had kept Vriska in another room for obvious reasons, despite there being enough beds here.]

Hello Kanaya.

[Kanaya's glad to see a friendly face. She sits up a little straighter and smiles a bit when Winry comes in.]

Good morning.

How are you feeling today? Any better?

[She pulls the cart up to her bedside, and takes out the tray]

I'm not sure if this is the kind of food you are use to eating, I'm not very familiar with the troll diet. [She looks a little sheepish] So let me know if I can get you something else.

[She holds it out for her]

Better, yes.

[Kanaya accepts the food, and doesn't answer Winry until she's had a little nibble at everything, trying it all before she makes a decision.]

This isn't our food, but it's good. Thank you.

Kurt arrives somewhat cautiously. He knows Vriska is still also here, and even though Kanaya told him she was much worse off than Kanaya herself was, he's still a little worried he might see her being pushed around in a wheelchair by a nurse or something. He peaks into Kanaya's room through the window before entering.

Kanaya might appreciate the jade green scarf he's wearing under his collar, which mostly hides the purple-yellow bruising left over from Vriska's stomp, as well as the bandage still covering his surgery wound.

He enters quietly, not saying anything, both because he can't and because he's not sure what to say. "Hi" probably won't cut it. Somewhat unsure of what to do, he sits down on a chair beside her bed, and gets a good look at her. She's seen better days, but seems fine beyond a few scratches and some bruising. He chooses not to say anything, and instead just waves his fingers accompanied by an awkward smile.

She's looking out the window when he arrives, and she jumps when the door opens. She smiles at him, waiting until he sits down to speak. He looks much better than when she saw him last, and she's glad that he seems to be healing well.

"I approve of that scarf," she says. A simple hi doesn't feel right.

Kurt's eyes dart down to look at it - the color choice hadn't necessarily been intentional. A subconscious choice, probably. But the color does compliment the rest of his outfit, which he'd chosen to wear only after discovering Kanaya's post and her location.

He gets out his communicator (they've told him that he can possibly start trying to talk tomorrow, though his voice probably won't manage much beyond whispers, if he's lucky), and types:

Thanks. I know better to wear dull or monotone colors around you.

She smiles when she sees the message. Of course he does. She'd be disappointed he didn't. But her initial happiness at seeing him only lasts so long, and she fixes him with a more serious look.

"How are you healing?"

It was time for his rounds for the day, which involved visiting every patient in what he fondly, personally called the sickberth. It was a decent space, as far as clinics went, and it wasn't a surprise, through the long weeks of shutting himself inside the place, that Watson would become overly familiar with it.

A little after lunch, the doctor made his way to the other side of the room where most of his patients were and peered into the room where another patient was. "Good afternoon," he greeted politely, stepping in when he was certain he wouldn't be a particular nuisance to the patient in question.

She looks up when he greets her - a little surprised, but she recovers quickly. She recognizes him - he's the one who had the fight with Eridan. She doesn't know the conclusion of that fight, but it doesn't really matter now. She smiles.

"Hello."

A friendly one, this Kanaya. Watson's smile widened, and he approached her with less wariness than he had previously reserved for the trolls -- after all, between Eridan and Vriska, he did not have much to recommend them to him.

"I've come to check if you are feeling better, and if you have anything you'd like done to make you more comfortable." She had some scrapes and bruises, from what he'd heard. If she had anything worse, Watson wasn't very certain if he would be able to heal her, at any rate. Other patients like that stubborn Kadaj needed his energy more, when he had it to spare.

An eye for an eye, that was essentially their way, and fuck if Sollux was going to question what the headstrong chick with the chainsaw lipstick decided was right. This wasn't any of his business to begin with; it was curiosity that drove him to the clinic that night, and that faint, odd sense of obligation.

They had to stick to their own, didn't they?

"Hey," is his greeting, accompanying the preceding knock at the doorway. There were advantages to keeping a nocturnal schedule. Fewer people to deal with, fewer staff to slip by and fewer gawkers in the streets. Bright and garish as the place already was, he knows this is the best it can ever get without glaring sun pouring in through hideously under-covered windows.

"Alive?"

Kanaya is honestly a little surprised to see Sollux - they hadn't been particularly close back home. It's a pleasant surprise, though, and she smiles when he comes in.

"I'm fine, really. Just a little tired."
